Friday night brings us an important clash in the Championship between Aston Villa and Leeds United at Villa Park, and Villa could move within two points of second placed Fulham if they manage a win at home this evening.
Steve Bruce’s side have captured two wins from their last three in the second tier with victories over Reading, and even more importantly, a 1-0 win over promotion rivals, Cardiff City, last time out, so they’ll no doubt be focused on gaining all three points against Leeds on Friday.
In addition, Aston Villa possess one of the best records at home in the Championship which stands at 13-6-2 40/18, and they’ve suffered just one defeat in their last 13 matches on home turf. Attacking personnel such as Adomah (14 goals), Hogan (6 goals) and Grabban (4 goals) will look to create plenty of goalscoring opportunities.
Onto Leeds and can someone explain why the board of this Yorkshire club showed the door to previous managers, Garry Monk and Thomas Christiansen, as they both held far better win percentages than current boss, Paul Heckingbottom.
It’s true that Heckingbottom inherited a squad that’s full of promise but regular fails to deliver, but he’s managed to gain just two wins since his appointment in February, and Leeds have slowly declined in their league position down to 14th place.
So, yet another season of disappointment for Leeds who have nothing to play for except Paul Heckingbottom’s job, and recent results suggest that the players aren’t that keen for him to stick around (Leeds have won just once in their last eight matches), while their away record reads a below par 7-3-11 26/34.
The visitors are without an away win from their last nine, and I’ve a feeling they could be heading for a tenth here…
