Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

Championship action resumes this weekend and my next preview concerns Aston Villa taking on Wigan Athletic as my betting tips continue at Villa Park this Saturday afternoon.

This will be the second game on the trot that Villa manager, Steve Bruce, faces another of his former clubs as he seeks to take Aston Villa one step better this time around in the Championship having lost in the Play-Off final to Fulham at the end of last season.

In their opening game of the season last Monday night, Aston Villa started their season with a bang as they inflicted a heavy 3-1 defeat away at Hull City, and they’ll fancy their chances of taking all three points against newly promoted Wigan this Saturday back on home turf.

Villa ended their season with a solid home record last term which stood at  14-7-2  42/19 but perhaps too many stalemates at home cost them automatic promotion. Nevertheless, Bruce’s side kept a total of 11 clean sheets last season at Villa Park. Adomah, Kodjia and Grealish are the influential players for Villa.

Wigan Athletic secured automatic promotion back up to the Championship from League One at the end of last season after edging out Lancashire rivals, Blackburn Rovers, to win the third tier title by a two point margin.

It was no less than Wigan and manager Paul Cook deserved as The Latics enjoyed a solid and consistent campaign, losing just six matches throughout the whole season which is a lengthy one in League One!

The visitors also ended up with the most away wins of the season in the division with 16 victories from their 23 matches win the road which was an excellent return, and they’ll therefore be confident they can get off to a good start at Villa Park on Saturday.

Wigan started their season with an opening day 3-2 home win over Sheffield Wednesday, so confidence is likely to be high for the visitors.

However, with their solid form at home, my betting tips suggest backing the hosts Aston Villa by giving the quarter-ball here.
