Atalanta Preview – Can Atalanta continue their excellent form to boost their chances of second?
There would have been some disappointment for Atalanta on the back of Saturday’s 2-2 draw away to Juventus. Although getting a point away to the champions elect would be seen as a good result, the Bergamo club were ahead twice in the game and only lost out on three points having conceded a penalty in the 90th minutes. It also brought an end to a run of nine straight wins in Serie A. Had Atalanta managed to hold on for the victory then they would have moved into second spot which will now be in their sights as Lazio and Inter falter.
Atalanta are now just one points behind Lazio who are the current occupants of second place and although Champions League football is guaranteed with any top four finish, being runners up would be their highest ever placing in the Italian top-flight.
You have to go all the way back to the 20th of January for the last time that Atalanta lost in the league. Somewhat ironically that loss was inflicted by SPAL – who are the only team currently below Brescia in the table. That will serve as a warning to Gian Piero Gasperini’s men.
Atalanta have both Milan teams to face between now and the end of the season but you wouldn’t be at all surprised if they are able to find the points they need to take second considering the form they’re in.

Time is beginning to run out for Brescia with an immediate return to Serie B looking more likely with each passing game. A heavy defeat at home to Roma last time out has left the club second bottom and nine points adrift of safety. There may be six games left but the dire form that Brescia have been in would suggest that they are not going to be able to find the wins they need to be safe.
A 2-0 win at home to Verona at the beginning of the month could have been the turning point but they have lost both games since, conceding six goals in the process.

The win over Verona remains Brescia’s only win in their last 17 league games. By anybody’s standards, that is simply not good enough. They’ve yet to win a game on their travels in 2020 and have lost six of their seven away games in Serie A scoring only four goals.
Only Lecce have conceded more goals on the road than Brescia and that will put real fear into them as they prepare to take on the most potent attacking team in the division.
