Atalanta Preview – Can Atalanta keep pace with early leaders by getting all three points?
The standard has been set so high at Atalanta over the last couple of seasons that every years expectations are greater and greater. Performances in Serie A and Europe mean they are now considered a genuine top four side but Gian Piero Gasperini knows his side will have to be even better this time around with the traditional bigger clubs also looking to challenge for the Champions League spots and the title itself.

It was something of an inconsistent season for Fiorentina last time out. An eventual finishing position of 13th could have been better considering they won just one of their final six matches. However they found themselves fighting relegation at the start of the year so they can’t been too disappointed. Vincenzo Italiano is the man tasked with improving on that campaign this time around following a successful couple of years at Spezia.
Italiano’s reign in Florence started with a comprehensive defeat away to Roma on the opening weekend but his team hit back with a deserved 2-1 win against Torino. Nicholas Gonzalez scored on his home debut whilst star man Duan Vlahovic picked up where he left off after notching 21 goals last season. Their partnership is going to be crucial for Fiorentina to have any success.

Fiorentina’s biggest issue last season was an inability to pick up points on their travels. Their tally of three wins was the third lowest in Serie A with only relegated Parma and Crotone picking up less victories away from home.
There was little to suggest that is going to change after the defeat in Rome but it could barely been a more difficult start on the road in their first two matches.
