Barnsley and Middlesbrough clash in an all-South Yorkshire affair at Oakwell in the EFL Championship on Saturday afternoon. The Tykes are fighting for survival at the foot of the table, while Boro are pushing for promotion to the Premier League. This is a vital fixture for both clubs, though in-form Middlesbrough are the clear favourites with the bookies. We have the latest odds and give you our top tips in our in-depth Barnsley vs Middlesbrough betting preview.

Barnsley Preview – Will the Tykes make it three wins in four?

After months of trying, Poya Asbaghi is finally getting a tune out of his Barnsley players. The Tykes head into this one having won two of their last three in the Championship. However, the Reds remain rooted to the foot of the Championship table with a mere 20 points to their name.

Barnsley recently stunned Queens Park Rangers with a 1-0 win at Oakwell earlier in the month. Asbaghi then guided the Tykes to only their fourth league win of the campaign in midweek, beating Hull City 2-0 at the MKM Stadium.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score – No

Barnsley have huffed and puffed to no real avail all season, but there have certainly been positive signs over the past couple of weeks or so. Can they cause another upset on Saturday?

Middlesbrough Preview – Will Boro cruise to three points at Oakwell?

Middlesbrough have been very easy on the eye since Chris Wilder arrived at the Riverside Stadium in November. The former Sheffield United boss has taken Boro from mid-table to the play-off places.

Since the change of management, Middlesbrough have shot up the table with nine wins from their last 13 Championship matches. Last Tuesday, Boro came from behind to beat Steve Bruce’s West Bromwich Albion 2-1 at the Riverside.

Middlesbrough were beaten at Bristol City in their last away game, so Wilder will want to see his team get back to winning ways on their travels at the weekend. The play-off chasers are the favourites, with the bookies offering just 10/11 for an away win.

Barnsley vs Middlesbrough Betting Advice

Middlesbrough eased to victory when these two met at the Riverside back in October. Andraz Sporar opened the scoring after 20 minutes, with Matt Crooks making sure of the points with three minutes to go.

The last meeting at Oakwell went Barnsley’s way back in April 2021. Alex Mowatt and Daryl Dike – who have both since left – netted the goals in a 2-0 home success for the Tykes.

Key Facts – Barnsley vs Middlesbrough Betting Tip

  • Barnsley have won two of their last three
  • Middlesbrough have won 11 of 17 league and cup matches under Wilder
  • The Tykes remain bottom of the table with just 20 points to their name

Barnsley will be buoyed by the recent wins, but we can see in-form Middlesbrough easing to victory at Oakwell on Saturday. Boro have won to nil on four occasions under Wilder, and you can get 2/1 for the away team to take three points and keep a clean sheet in this one.

Middlesbrough were 1-0 up at half time in their eventual 2-0 home victory over Barnsley back in October. We fancy something similar on Saturday, so check out the solid price of 11/5 for Boro to be winning at half time and full time.
