Lee Bowyer’s Birmingham City and Mick McCarthy’s Cardiff City do battle in the EFL Championship at St Andrew’s Trillion Trophy Stadium on Saturday afternoon. The Blues are unbeaten in six and have taken ten points from the last 12 on offer, but the Bluebirds have picked up 35 points on their travels this season. This promises to be an entertaining end-of-season affair in the Midlands.

Birmingham City Preview – Will the Blues stetch unbeaten run to seven?

Lee Bowyer has done an exceptional job at St Andrew’s since taking over. Bowyer’s ultimate task was to keep the Blues in the Championship, and Birmingham have passed that test with flying colours. With two fixtures left, City are 13 points clear of the drop zone.

Bowyer has guided Birmingham to five wins from eight games since arriving in the Midlands. The former Blues player has picked up victories over Reading, Swansea City, Stoke City, Rotherham United and Derby County. Only Watford, who were promoted to the Premier League last weekend, have beaten Bowyer’s men.

Our betting prediction:
Both teams to score

Birmingham will want to remain unbeaten for the rest of their campaign. After facing Cardiff on home soil this Saturday, the Blues’ season ends with a trip to Blackburn Rovers next week.

Cardiff City Preview – Can the Bluebirds return to winning ways on the road?

Cardiff City were in 15th place and looking dangerously over their shoulder when Mick McCarthy took over in January. However, the Bluebirds have been very hard to beat under their new boss, with just Watford, Nottingham Forest and Sheffield Wednesday getting the better of them.

City’s play-off bid may have run out of steam in the end, but Cardiff did exceptionally well to put themselves in the promotion picture. Since those shock defeats to Forest and Wednesday, the Welsh side are unbeaten in four, following up three draws with a 2-1 win over Wycombe Wanderers last time out.

That horrendous defeat to Hillsborough remains McCarthy’s only away loss so far. Since then, they have drawn 1-1 at both Reading and Brentford. Can Cardiff return to South Wales this weekend with all three points?

Birmingham City vs Cardiff City Betting Advice

These two clubs were involved in a five-goal thriller at the Cardiff City Stadium earlier in the season. Cardiff led but found themselves 2-1 down with 13 minutes to go. However, late goals from Harry Wilson and Sean Morrison turned the game in the Welsh team’s favour.

Cardiff have struggled at St Andrew’s in recent years, failing to win on Birmingham’s patch since a Joe Mason goal gave them a 1-0 win on their way to the Championship title in 2013.

Key Facts – Birmingham City vs Cardiff City Betting Tip

  • Birmingham are unbeaten in six (four wins, two draws)
  • Cardiff have won one and drawn three of their previous four
  • The Bluebirds have not won at Birmingham for over eight years

Both sides will be hoping to end their seasons in strong fashion. As we touched on, Cardiff have a poor recent record at St Andrew’s and have already lost on this ground this term (a 1-0 defeat to Coventry City in November). However, we are backing the away team to leave with a point this Saturday. The draw is available at 11/5.

Kieffer Moore has had a superb first season with Cardiff, scoring 20 Championship goals so far. Moore, who netted twice last time out, is priced at 7/4 to score first here.
