Brentford return to Championship action and also Griffin Park as they look to put back-to-back defeats behind them here when they take on struggling Bolton Wanderers.
Brentford were dealt a heavy 3-0 defeat away at Wolves last time out in the Championship along with last weekend’s FA Cup third round 1-0 defeat at home to Notts County, so The Bees will no doubt be keen to set the record straight in Saturday afternoon’s clash, and a win here could lift them within striking distance of the play-off pack.
As it is, Brentford sit in 11th place ahead of this encounter, but prior to the Wolves defeat, the London club had registered three league wins on the trot with victories over Norwich City, Aston Villa and Sheffield Wednesday. They’ve lost just once at home all season amidst an overall record of 5-7-1 22/15 and they’re unbeaten since their opening home game of the season where they lost to Nottingham Forest.
Bolton Wanderers have returned some interesting results of late which have seen The Trotters win three of their last four in the Championship with wins over Cardiff City, Sheffield United and Hull City. This recent resurgence in the league has resulted in Bolton pulling themselves out of the bottom three and they now sit in 20th place.
However, with just one point separating themselves and third from bottom club, Burton Albion, they’re definitely not out of the woods yet. Bolton bowed out of the FA Cup at the third round stage to Premier League new boys Huddersfield Town, but given their current plight (and their obvious priority to stay in the Championship), a midweek friendly seems to be a strange decision.
Bolton lost 3-2 at home to German 3.Liga club Magdeburg during the week, and although this has little bearing on this weekend’s action, they still experienced defeat in this and the cup loss to Huddersfield.
