Brentford Preview – Can Brentford return to top six?
Although Brentford dropped out of the play-off pack in the Championship following a 2-2 draw at home with Blackburn Rovers on Saturday, The Bees nevertheless, extended their unbeaten record in the second tier to nine matches and will be confident that they can return to the top six with a win over floundering Derby County on Wednesday night.
Five of Brentford’s last nine matches unbeaten consisted of draws and this has been the reason that the hosts have dropped out of the top six but this expected to be just temporary as Brentford are unbeaten in their last six matches at home.
A home record of 3-4-1 13/9 to date includes wins against Coventry City and QPR and although The Bees have drawn with Norwich City, Swansea City, Middlesbrough and Blackburn Rovers, it should be noted that all of these teams currently sit in the top half of the Championship.
Derby County Preview – Can Derby win back-to-back?
Derby County registered a desperately needed 1-0 win on the weekend away at Millwall in the Championship and although The Rams still occupy a place in the bottom three, that win has at least lifted the east midlands club off the bottom and into second from bottom place.
The visitors have managed to pick up just two wins though throughout this season’s Championship campaign to date which has already resulted with the sacking of former manager, Philip Cocu, and seen the introduction of a four-man interim management team with Wayne Rooney heading it up.
Since Cocu’s departure, Derby have put together a three-match unbeaten run in the second tier as they’ve picked up points in draws with Wycombe Wanderers and Coventry City along with the win at Millwall, but it’s still just three wins from their last 22 matches overall.
