Brentford Preview – Do Brentford have it within them to overturn first leg defeat and progress to Wembley?

They may be trailing coming into the second leg but Brentford will feel that they are capable of overcoming the one goal deficit and keep their Premier League dream alive. Thomas Frank’s team had their chances on Sunday but will feel that having conceded a penalty (which was missed) and being unfairly reduced to 10 men for the last 20 minutes it could have been a lot worse. Frank will also be pleased that Rico Henry will be able to play after the red card was rescinded.

The Bees will also take confidence from the fact that they were comfortable winners over the Swans in the league back on Boxing Day last year – winning 3-1.

There could also be a romanticism surrounding this game as it will be Brentford’s last match at Griffin Park which has been their home stadium for over a century. They also know how to win games here having won the second most home games during the regular Championship season.

The heartbreaking defeat to Barnsley on the final day was Brentford’s first home defeat in nine matches and brought an end to a run of five straight wins. Four of which they were able to keep clean sheets in.

Swansea City Preview – Will Swansea finish off the job and go to within one game of the Premier League?

The team who sneaked into the playoffs in dramatic circumstances now know that they are 90 minutes away from reaching Wembley. And that they will definitely compete in the final should they avoid defeat tomorrow night. Andre Ayew’s excellent goal has given the Swans an advantage heading into the second leg and it’s just rewards for a player who has stuck by the club when so many other big name players have left.

Ayew has been excellent this season and that was his 16th goal in the Championship which makes this his most productive league campaign of his career. The Ghanaian will be hoping to add to that on Wednesday and that his earlier penalty miss does not come back to haunt him.

In many ways this a game that Swansea should be well suited by as they do not lose many games away from home. Their four losses is the joint-lowest number of defeats in the Championship which indicates that they have a style that suits playing on the road.

A 1-0 defeat to Fulham at the end of February is their only loss in their last nine away games. This will undoubtedly be their hardest test since that match but one they will approach with confidence.

Brentford vs Swansea City Betting Advice

It was always likely to be a tie where there would be very little between the teams and that’s what the first leg showed. Although only one goal in it there was plenty of incident in keeping with what we expect from the playoffs and also plenty of chances at either end.

As away goals don’t count we should expect to see another contest where both teams go for it and do their utmost to reach next Tuesday’s final.

Key Facts – Brentford vs Swansea City Betting Tip

  • Brentford had the second highest number of home wins during the regular Championship season
  • Swansea’s four away losses was the joint lowest in the division along with Nottingham Forest and West Brom
  • Sunday’s win means Swansea have now won nine of the last 10 meetings

Brentford are excellent at home and are understandably favourites to win this game in 90 minutes but it would be no surprise for the game to require extra time. Swansea’s record where seven of their last nine away games have seen both teams scoring and that’s the selection I’m keen on tomorrow. It was a winner when the teams met back in December which increases confidence.
