Coventry City Preview – Can Coventry make St Andrews second home again?
Coventry City were handed automatic promotion to the Championship at the end of last season’s League One campaign as they were sitting top of the third tier when the season was halted, holding a five-point lead over runners-up, Rotherham United, and the Sky Blues will be hoping they can consolidate their second tier status this term.
It’s been a long wait for Coventry City fans to see their team make a return to the Championship (eight years in fact), and they didn’t get off to the best of starts in their season-opener away at Bristol City as Mark Robins’s side suffered a 2-1 defeat at Ashton Gate.
However, Coventry now return to their temporary home of St Andrews due to ongoing problems with their former home, Ricoh Arena, but City won’t mind too much, particularly as they lost just once on home soil throughout last term.
QPR Preview – Can QPR push for play-offs?
It was yet another season of mediocrity for Friday night’s visitors, QPR, in last season’s Championship as they finished in 13th place after briefly flirting with a possible play-off spot back in early March following a promising run of six matches without defeat.
During this period, The R’s registered wins against Stoke City, Derby County and Preston North End but Mark Warburton’s side just couldn’t sustain that level of consistency and their outside chances of a possible top six finish dwindled and ultimately evaporated.
Despite winning their opening match of the Championship season last weekend with a 2-0 home win over Nottingham Forest, it looks like being another tough campaign for the London club as both of last season’s leading goalscorers, Eze (14 goals) and Hugill (13 goals), have left the club to join Crystal Palace and Norwich City respectively, while results away from home were poor – QPR managed just two wins from their last 13 matches on the road.
