Despite losing their last three league matches on the trot, Derby County still remain within striking distance of the play-off pack as they trail 6th placed Bristol City by three points which is thanks mainly to Bristol City losing three of their last four matches in the Championship.
Back to Derby, and the home side have suffered recent defeats to Millwall, Nottingham Forest and a heavy 4-0 defeat away to Aston Villa at Villa Park on the weekend, which was another setback for Frank Lampard’s side who are perhaps feeling the pressure of the weight of expectation in The Rams securing a top six finish.

Wigan Athletic occupy 19th place in the Championship and so far, have managed to keep the relegation zone at arms length thanks to a recent run of five league matches without defeat which includes a 2-1 home win over QPR along with four draws on the trot, sharing a point with Rotherham United, Stoke City, Ipswich Town and Middlesbrough.
Another point at Derby County on Tuesday night would be considered a good result for The Latics, but they’d still be within a six-team group where three of these six teams will go down at the end of the season as Wigan trail 18th placed QPR by six points.
The visitors possess a poor record away from home though, and this could be a telling factor in tonight’s result with a record of 1-3-12 13/30, The Latics have now gone 14 away matches without a win, losing 11 of these 14.
With just one clean sheet on their travels also, this could be a long night for the visitors against a Derby side looking to draw level on points with the play-off pack.
