Derby County Preview – Can County secure back-to-back wins?

Derby County have had a mixed bag of results at the start of this season. On the opening weekend of their Championship campaign, the Rams drew 1-1 at home with Huddersfield Town. They then needed penalties to see of Salford City in the EFL Cup.

On matchday two, Derby led 1-0 at Peterborough United going into injury time. However, Wayne Rooney’s men shipped two late goals to lose 2-1 at the Weston Homes Stadium. County dusted themselves down and picked up a crucial three points on the road on Wednesday, winning 1-0 at Hull City thanks to a goal from Sam Baldock, who was making his Derby debut.

Derby have been tipped to struggle this season, but the midweek win in Hull will have certainly alleviated some of the early-season pressure. Can Rooney’s Rams follow that up with another three points at the weekend?

Middlesbrough Preview – Will Warnock’s men bounce back?

Like Derby, Middlesbrough have also taken four points from their opening three Championship games. Neil Warnock’s men held title favourites Fulham to a 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage on the opening weekend. They were then beaten 3-0 by Blackpool in the cup.

Middlesbrough picked up their first win of the season last Saturday, edging past Bristol City at the Riverside Stadium. Uche Ikpeazu and Matt Crooks were on target in a 2-1 home win. However, they were on the wrong end of a five-goal thriller against Queens Park Rangers in midweek, losing 3-2 at home to the London side.

Derby County vs Middlesbrough Betting Advice

Last season, both teams won the home game in this fixture. Back in November, Boro eased to a 3-0 victory over Derby at the Riverside, with an own goal, and strikes from Britt Assombalonga and Marvin Johnson doing the business. In February at Pride Park, Lee Gregory and Colin Kazim-Richards netted in a 2-1 win for the Rams.

Key Facts – Derby County vs Middlesbrough Betting Tip

  • Half of the last six meeting between Derby and Middlesbrough have ended level
  • Derby’s win in midweek was their first in the Championship since 2nd April
  • Both teams have taken four points from a possible nine so far

Both teams will be gunning for all three points, but the draw would suit Derby more. After their hard-fought win at the MKM Stadium in midweek, we fancy County to hold Middlesbrough to a draw on Saturday. The draw and under 2.5 goals is available at 11/4.

After scoring on his Derby debut last time out, Sam Baldock will be keen to add to his Rams tally this weekend. The former Brighton & Hove Albion and Reading man is priced at 5/2 to score anytime here.
