Fiorentina Preview – Will Fiorentina have enough to inflict defeat on Milan for the first time this season?
Fiorentina’s form in Serie A this campaign has been pretty remarkable. Now 12 games into the season and the Fiorenze have won six and lost six – making them the only team not to have drawn a game in the Italian top-flight. Vincenzo Italiano – who took over the head coaching job back in July of this year – is certainly making a mark on the club. They finished 13th last season, seven points clear of the bottom three, but there’s no doubt this squad are capable of better than that.
Italiano will be hoping his players can sustain their current position of seventh place and perhaps improve on it. Fiorentina are a point behind Roma who occupy the final European place and only four adrift of the top four and qualification to the Champions League. They have won their last two home games 3-0 (beating Cagliari and Italiano’s former club Spezia), with their other home win coming against Torino. Their two defeats have come at the hands of champions Inter and the other joint leaders, Napoli. They’ve lost little in the pair of 2-1 defeats to those rivals.
No guessing who their hopes for goals will lie with again this week. Duan Vlahovic is on eight for the season already having notched 21 in his last campaign. He’s one of the hottest talents in European football currently.

Milan remain one of only two teams who are unbeaten as we approach the completion of the first third of the campaign. A 1-1 draw against Inter in the last match before the international break is just the second time they have dropped points in the league this season – the other being away to Juventus back in September.
The challenge for Stefano Pioli and his players is to do the same as they did when drawing in Turin, and that’s putting together a run of victories. Milan won seven in a row after that game and that sees them seven points clear of third place which happens to be city rivals, Inter.

On their travels Milan have won five and draw one, which is the joint best record in the league along with Napoli and Atalanta. That run of wins has included victories over the latter of those two teams and Roma – two of their rivals for top four and teams who you would expect to be challenging at the top of the table.
