FULHAM v NORWICH CITY

Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

Saturday brings us the main bulk of the opening fixtures in the Championship and my next pick pits the wits of hosts, Fulham, against visitors, Norwich City, at Craven Cottage, in what could be an early tussle for one of the play-off positions later in the season.

Fulham finished in sixth place, and just one point behind Huddersfield Town who achieved promotion via the play-offs into the Premier League, but Fulham were not so lucky – Fulham drew 1-1 with Reading in their first leg semi-final play-off, but lost 1-0 in the second leg.

But Fulham should still be a respected side in this division, and they showed what they are capable of in the closing weeks of last season as they won five of their last six matches to achieve a play-off spot. More of the same is expected this term, along with plenty of goals again.

Visitors Norwich City huffed and puffed for much of last season, and although they were always on the fringes of the play-off pack, the Canaries just couldn’t put any meaningful sort of winning or unbeaten run together until it was too late.

A particularly lean spell from mid-February until early April saw Norwich register just one league win which was a 2-0 home win over bottom half outfit, Barnsley, but this period saw them lose valuable ground on the top six clubs, and although they finished the season in strong fashion with four wins from their last six matches, it was too little too late.

But a new season dawns, and with strikers Jerome, Naismith and Wildschut along with influential midfielders, Pritchard and Hoolahan, I’m expecting them to be there or thereabouts for a play-off place this term.
