There’s Monday night action in the Championship with Hull City taking on Aston Villa with my betting tips continuing at the KCOM Stadium, wrapping up this opening weekend.
Hull’s pre-season wasn’t a spectacular success as they gained just one win from their five matches which was a 2-1 win away at Portuguese club, Maritimo, but defeats to Sporting Braga and Rochdale were followed by stalemates with Newcastle United and Barnsley.
After a poor start to last season, which saw The Tigers register just two wins from their first ten league matches, they showed the door to former Russian national coach, Leonid Slutsky, and in came Nigel Adkins. He steadied the ship somewhat as he guided Hull away from relegation, but they still finished in a disappointing 18th place in the second tier.
Aston Villa manager, Steve Bruce, returns to one of his former clubs as he brings his play-off finals side to the KCOM Stadium with a view to going one step better this time around. Villa suffered the heartbreak of losing last season’s Championship play-off final to Fulham at Wembley, and they now need to pick themselves up for this campaign.
The west midlands club will need to improve upon their away record this time around if they’re to make another serious challenge for promotion as they ended last season with a fairly average record of 10-4-9 30/23, and overall, they managed just one win from their last five matches in the run-in.
That win was a 1-0 victory at Middlesbrough, and Bruce will no doubt be keen for his side to get off to a good start on Monday night with forwards Hogan and Kodjia pushing for starts. Midfielders Grealish and Hourihane will provide the creativity, while Jedinak will mop up just in front of the defence.
