Hull City Preview – Can Tigers halt losing streak?

Hull City head into this upcoming Friday night fixture in the English second tier against Luton Town on the back of a worrying four-match losing streak as The Tigers have slumped to losses against QPR, Sheffield United, Stoke City and Swansea City respectively, and the hosts will be hoping that the recent international break does them a favour as they look to pull away from the early danger of the relegation places below them.

Hull had previously made an encouraging start to this new Championship season as The Tigers had been dealt just one defeat in their opening six games of the new campaign, which came in the form of a heavy 5-2 loss away from home at West Brom, but Shota Arveladze’s side had also picked up three wins during this period as well.

Victories collected against Bristol City, Norwich City and Coventry City saw Hull City off to a promising start but the hosts have since been unable to maintain their early momentum as they have lost their subsequent four games on the trot, scoring just 1 goal but conceding a total of 11 goals in reply which will be a concern for manager, Arveladze.

Results and form on home soil have also been a bit hit or miss for Hull City as the hosts have managed to register just five wins out of their last 14 matches at their MKM Stadium which includes keeping just one clean sheet and also failing to score themselves on no fewer than seven occasions as well.

Arveladze also has numerous injuries and absences from his Hull City side to contend with as well with no fewer than eight players looking set to be sidelined including forwards Vaughn Covil and Allahyar Sayyadmanesh who are both battling injuries.

Luton Town Preview – Can The Hatters pick up where they left off?

Prior to the international break, Friday’s visitors, Luton Town, picked up a valuable 2-0 home win against Blackburn Rovers which saw The Hatters build on the back of some recent impressive displays and results, with the Bedford side losing just once in their last six matches in the English second tier.

In contrast to Hull City’s encouraging start to this new Championship season, Luton Town had failed to win any of their opening four games of the new campaign which included back to back draws with Birmingham City and Barnsley, which were then followed by disappointing back to back losses against Preston NE and Bristol City respectively.

However, since then, Luton Town have staged something of a recovery under manager, Nathan Jones, as the visitors have suffered just one further defeat in their subsequent six matches overall, which came in the shape of a 2-1 loss at home to Wigan Athletic but also included three wins and two draws as well.

Victories against the two Welsh clubs, Swansea City and Cardiff City in 2-0 and 2-1 wins respectively were also both away from home while last time out, The Hatters posted a solid 2-0 home win against Blackburn Rovers, with their points tally further boosted by picking up points in draws with Sheffield United and Coventry City.

With speculation surrounding manager Nathan Jones and the previously vacant post at Brighton coming to nothing, mid-table Luton will be looking to push on after the international break and although forward Harry Cornick is rated as doubtful, Jones’s players should be well rested ahead of this upcoming Friday night fixture.

Hull City were really struggling before the international break with Shota Arveladze’s tenure at the club looking increasingly fragile so the hosts will be desperate to end their four-game losing streak here, while Luton Town have made steady progress in recent weeks and have won their last two away games on the trot which could see The Hatters get something from this trip up north on Friday night.
