Inter Milan – League and cup double very much alive?
The Nerazzurri carry serious momentum into what is, on paper, their most difficult remaining assignment in the Serie A run-in. Simone Inzaghi’s men haven’t lost a competitive fixture since February, straying into double digits for games unbeaten (10 – W6 D4) with Tuesday’s 3-0 demolition of Milanese rivals AC in the Coppa Italia semi-finals. Stephan El Shaarawy has featured sparingly for the Giallorossi this season, but how important could his equaliser in second-half stoppage-time of last Monday’s 1-1 draw in Naples against Napoli turn out to be? The very fact it preserved their long unbeaten run in Serie A, which is now up to 12 (W7 D5), means it could be priceless, maintaining their momentum ahead of a run-in that could still garner a top four finish.
Roma sit five points off Juventus and the final Champions League berth, while Lazio are only two points back in sixth. Every result and point matters then. Across the last seven games though, nobody has collected more (17 – W5 D2) than Jose Mourinho’s in-form charges. However, away from home, against the better sides, they have toiled more often than not, with a record that reads W1 D1 L3 away to the top eight.
