Preview: A Turin Derby to whet the appetite for us on Saturday. Hosts Juventus have won six successive matches to lead Serie A from Lazio in second, but must now contend with a Torino side no doubt keen to sabotage The Old Lady’s pursuit of a ninth consecutive Scudetto.

Juventus Preview – Lethal strike duo carrying Juve to the title?

Undaunted by Lazio momentarily climbing to within a single point of their lead with a hard-fought victory over Torino earlier in the day, Juventus (1st – W23 D3 L3) would respond emphatically in Genoa that same Tuesday. Goals from Paulo Dybala, Cristiano Ronaldo and Douglas Costa wrapping up a 3-1 success that quickly restored The Old Lady’s four point lead in this engrossing title race. Next up, Derby della Mole (the Turin Derby).

Juventus, who again took some time to warm to proceedings in midweek, have now won all three Serie A fixtures since the restart – against Bologna (0-2), Lecce (4-0) and now Genoa (1-3) – and are currently on a six-game winning streak in the competition. It was the second successive game, however, in which Mauricio Sarri’s men were held to a goalless draw at the interval, with their last seven goals all netted in the second period.

In fact Juve have been level at half-time but led come full-time (33/10 with Unibet) in three of the last four. Meanwhile, the Dybala – Ronaldo combination is flourishing. The pair both netting in each of the last three, while the former boasts a goal in five of his last six Serie A appearances and has opened the scoring four times in this period. Something to ponder perhaps ahead of Juventus looking to make it seven straight league wins.

Torino Preview – Steadily improving visitors out to sabotage rivals’ title push?

Sometimes in football a team can feel hard done by. Tuesday’s result with second place Lazio was one of those moments for Torino (14th – W9 D4 L16). As while the final outcome was hardly a travesty, losing 2-1 in Turin to a very strong outfit who were unsurprisingly in determined mood, the fact they restricted their visitors to just 0.83 xG but came away empty handed was hard to digest. It doesn’t get any easier, either.

Statistically speaking, it only gets tougher. Leaders and cross-city rivals Juventus await next and, having held their Turin neighbours to a 1-1 draw at Juventus Stadium last season, Il Toro can feel reasonably bullish (pun intended) about the chances of scuppering their bitter rivals title defence. And when I say ‘reasonably’ I am talking about a side that has lost its past five Serie A away games.

Prior to the Lazio defeat, however, Torino had fared well on their return to action. Again, by ‘well’ I am referring to a collective of players which had lost six on the spin, by an aggregate of 2-19, prior to the pandemic bringing football to a standstill. A 1-1 draw with Parma and 1-0 victory over Udinese, both at home, preceded last weekend’s 4-2 loss in Cagliari. It means Moreno Longo’s team approach this game just six points clear of the drop.

Juventus Vs Torino Betting Advice

Unsurprisingly this is a fixture Juventus, who have not lost to their Turin rivals since 2015 (W7 D2 in Serie A since), invariably win. However, Torino have shown a desire to compete with their illustrious neighbours more recently. It took a fairly late goal from centre-halve Matthijs de Ligt to secure The Old Lady a 1-0 win earlier in the season, giving them a third 1-0 success in the past four meetings, while last season’s clash at Juventus Stadium ended all square following a 1-1 draw.

Juventus Vs Torino – Key Facts

  • Six straight victories for Juventus in Serie A (four to nil), with Paulo Dybala and Cristiano Ronaldo both on target in all three wins since the restart.
  • Back-to-back league defeats now for Torino, who had initially started brightly after returning to action by claiming four points from six.
  • There hasn’t been more than a single goal between these two teams across the past four meetings in Serie A, though Juventus would prevail 1-0 on three occasions.

There have been some encouraging signs of life with this Torino side of late, having looked lifeless not all that long ago. Factor in the added motivation of potentially denting their rivals title challenge, which would in turn boost their chances of avoiding the drop, and another bold showing from the underdogs could be in the making.
