It’s third versus fourth in the Scottish Premiership on Saturday as Motherwell host Aberdeen. Regardless of what happens in this game ‘Well will remain in third spot which is an indication of both teams’ start to the season.
Lazio Preview – Can Lazio get the win that would see them climb into the top four ahead of the other weekend matches?
There have been some disappointments already for Lazio this season but Simone Inzaghi’s men remain on the fringes of the Champions League places. A top four spot is their aim this term and providing they can remain in and round those positions they will be hopeful they can achieve that. Currently in sixth spot, Lazio are only two points adrift of Napoli who sit in the final Champions League place at the moment. Previous to the international break they had definitely picked up their form from earlier in the season. Their last four games have returned seven points with their only loss coming in a narrow 1-0 defeat at the San Siro against Inter Milan. It was a decent enough performance, however, and they have also got back on track in the Europa League thanks to a win at home to Rennes.
As has been the case over the previous couple of season, the goals of Ciro Immobile are already proving crucial to Inzaghi’s team. Seven goals in as many league games has him heading the scoring charts in Serie A already. He may not carry the same level of production into international football but there’s no doubting his qualities at club level. He has scored in five of Lazio’s seven league games and also netted in the win over Rennes.
Atalanta Preview – Will Atalanta continue their excellent league form and take three points that would take them top?
It may not be the debut campaign in the Champions League group stage they would have been hoping for but Atalanta are again showing their class domestically. Only Juventus and Inter sit above them coming into this game. And, because this is the first game of the weekend, Atalanta can actually go top for a few hours at least. That’s an indication of how good this team can be and they showed last season that they definitely have the staying power. Atalanta’s only defeat in the league this season was a surprise reverse at home to Atalanta but they have not looked back since then.
It’s four wins and a draw in the five league games following that defeat including two comprehensive victories before the international break. Atalanta also have a striker bang in form as Daniel Zapata is just one behind his counterpart. The Colombian has scored in each of his last three games and is on course to try and match and beat his tally of 23 league goals last season. Zapata was also on the score sheet the last time he faced Lazio at the Stadio Olimpico in what was a 3-1 win for Atalanta.
