Lazio – Sarri’s men not as threatening this term?
For a team that scored 77 times in 38 league games last term, which was actually the second-best figure in Serie A, behind the 84 of Inter Milan, it has been a surprisingly tepid showing thus far from Maurizio Sarri’s charges. After two rounds, Lazio have four points from a possible six after playing Bologna and Torino. Scoring twice – one an own goal – from 1.5xG, which is a worse figure than all barring Lecce and Monza.
It’s early days, though, and a return to Stadio Olimpico presents an opportunity to go through the gears. Last season, Le Aquile averaged more than two goals every home outing in the league as they won 10 of 19 said matches (D6 L3). Inter Milan – Nerazzurri are the Serie A team in form?
The Nerazzurri dropped only three points across their final nine league games of last season (W8 L1). They still ended up relinquishing the Serie A title though. Their supreme form towards the end of the campaign, which also culminated in a thrilling Coppa Italia final win over Juventus, not enough to haul in AC Milan who finished two points in the clear. Undeterred, Inzaghi’s men have picked up from where they left off.
Inter Milan made extremely light work of last week’s assignment against Spezia, thrashing the Ligurians 3-0 at San Siro. Although they needed a last-gasp winner to beat newly-promoted Lecce on the opening weekend, 2020-21’s Scudetto winners were good value for the three points at Stadio Via del Mare. Making it ten wins in their past 11 league games, having lost once in 15 (W11 D3) since the middle of February.
Key Stat: Inter Milan accrued more points away from home last season (39) than Lazio managed at home. However, they would beat only one of the top five on their travels (W1 D2 L1) – that a 1-0 victory in Turin versus Juventus.

Inter Milan last won away to Lazio in the league in October 2018, losing on two of their three subsequent visits which includes a 3-1 scoreline upon visiting the Stadio Olimpico last season. Prior to that, though, the Nerazzurri had won three away meetings in a row and their early performances, coupled with Lazio looking unconvincing so far, suggest the visitors are the more likely winners from Friday’s contest.
