Lazio Preview – Victory would reaffirm title credentials?

According to Infogol’s expected goals model, Lazio (3rd – W16 D5 L2) are exactly where they deserve to be – which is third in the Serie A table. Further proof their excellent endeavours thus far were no fluke and that this team can be genuine Scudetto contenders. Maintaining these high standards will depend not only on keeping key individuals fit and happy – namely play-maker Luis Alberto and Europe’s most prolific goalscorer in 2019/20, Ciro Immobile – but also results in the crunch encounters.

With the exception of their 3-1 success at home to Juventus, Simone Inzaghi and his players have not really excelled in the big games this season. Versus the current top five in the Serie A standings (Atalanta, Inter Milan, Juventus and Roma), they have registered six points from five games and fell to a 1-0 loss at the San Siro in the reverse of this fixture in September. At home there were draws with Atalanta (3-3) and Roma (1-1), coming from behind in both.

There are also suggestions Le Aquile are gradually running out of steam. Across their previous five matches in league and cup, only once was more than one goal scored (that a 5-1 win at their Stadio Olimpico over a SPAL side bottom of Serie A). Unsurprisingly, they won only two of these encounters (W2 D2 L1). Although their form over a longer period is clearly phenomenal, with seven wins from the last eight on home soil coming amidst a 18-match stretch without losing in Serie A (W14 D4).

Inter Milan Preview – Conte demanding big response to midweek loss?

Big games are coming thick and fast for Inter Milan (1st – W16 D6 L1), who, according to Infogol, have been the second best team in Serie A so far this season. So they, too, are roughly where they deserve to be, and are likely to be involved in the Scudetto conversation until the bitter end. Results last weekend – fighting back from 2-0 down to claim the spoils in the Derby della Madonnina with a 4-2 victory over AC Milan, as Juventus were beaten 2-1 on the road in Verona – has handed them the initiative.

A superior goal difference, to the margin of +7, is all that is keeping Juventus at bay in second. Meanwhile Sunday’s opponents Lazio are just a point further back. No team in Serie A has as many wins or points (29 – W9 D2 L0) on their travels than the Nerazzurri, though, who could put breathing space between them and the latter should Conte’s men make it three straight league wins for the first time since December.

Similar to their upcoming opponents, Inter have been a little inconsistent of late. Prior to last week’s derby success, a hard-fought 2-0 win away in Udinese halted a run of three successive 1-1 draws with Atalanta, Lecce and Cagliari. While Wednesday’s Coppa Italia first-leg with Napoli at San Siro didn’t go to plan at all, losing 1-0 to leave them with plenty of work to be done in Naples. Which means an even greater workload ahead of a pivotal clash with Juventus in Turin in a fortnight’s time.

Lazio Vs Inter Milan Betting Advice

This could be brilliant viewing. Defeat for either wouldn’t be the end of the world, with the gap between them miniscule in the grand scheme of things, but losing isn’t something either team are accustomed to with both currently enjoying lengthy unbeaten streaks. Lazio’s record at home (W9 D3) is the second-best in Serie A, however, Inter Milan have taken more points on the road (W9 D2) than anyone.

Lazio Vs Inter Milan – Key Facts:

  • Lazio have won seven of the last eight Serie A matches held on home soil, averaging nearly three goals goal per game (2.92) in said matches across the whole season.
  • Inter Milan are the only side still to suffer a loss away from home in Serie A this season (W9 D2), scoring on all eleven outings.
  • Three of the past four Serie A meetings were won by Inter Milan (W3 L1), who would also take the spoils on each of their last three visits to the Stadio Olimpico.

In some respects, Lazio are miserly at the back – they’ve not conceded more than one goal in any of their last eleven league games, although did let in exactly one on eight occasions. Keeping out an Inter side that has scored in every away outing so far won’t be straightforward, though, while at home Inzaghi’s team are averaging close to three goals per game. Therefore, goals could be in ample supply.
