Lazio – No silverware beckons for Sarri?

Maurizio Sarri will be pleased to see the back of February, but not before his beleaguered Lazio take on third-place Napoli. Napoli – Spalletti’s side all-in for Scudetto?

Luciano Spalletti’s men unfortunately wouldn’t fare any better during Thursday’s midweek Europa League action, unceremoniously dumped out at the Round of 32 stage by Barcelona. The La Liga side were both convincing winners on the night and the tie, winning 4-2 in Naples and 5-3 on aggregate. Leaving Napoli with only the league to focus on as they resume their pursuit for a first championship in 32 years.

Like Lazio, though, momentum has undoubtedly been lost owing to recent results. Each of their past two Serie A fixtures have ended 1-1, and while being held at home by Inter could be considered par for the course, last week’s display in Cagliari, in which Victor Osimhen’s 87th-minute equaliser salvaged a share of the points, was less so. Though the latter would stretch their unbeaten league run to seven (W4 D3).

Key Stat: Nine of the past ten Serie A matches involving Napoli haven’t seen more than two goals scored between the sides. Meanwhile, the last league opponent to score more than once against the Partenopei was Atalanta on 4 December, 11 games ago.
