Mainz Preview – Can Mainz bounce back?

Friday night’s hosts, Mainz, were handed a heavy 4-1 loss away from home at Hoffenheim last weekend in the Bundesliga but they now return to the more familiar surroundings of their MEWA ARENA where the hosts will be keen to set the record straight and continue their ascent up the domestic top flight table where they currently sit in 6th place.

Mainz produced an encouraging start to their new Bundesliga campaign as the hosts put together a three-match unbeaten run which included wins against Bochum 2-1 away from home and a 2-1 win on the road at Augsburg, while also picking up a point in a 0-0 draw at home with last season’s Europa League winners, Union Berlin.

A third win on the trot on their travels followed with a 1-0 victory at Borussia M’gladbach last time out on the road and although they were dealt defeats by Bayer Leverkusen and the aforementioned Hoffenheim, the three wins that Mainz have picked up have helped lift the hosts into early contention for a possible top six finish.

In addition, Mainz have lost just two of their last 15 matches at home in the Bundesliga and have collected eight wins in the process, but the hosts have seemingly stuttered on home soil in recent times, picking up just two wins in their last seven games at home.

Mainz manager, Bo Svensson, will be without defender Alexander Hack who is suspended following a red card while forward Marcus Ingvartsen is sidelined with a knee injury.

Midfielder Anton Stach and forward Jonathan Burkhardt are trying to shrug off injuries and are rated as questionable for this Friday night clash.

Mainz are unbeaten in their last six meetings against Hertha Berlin.

Hertha Berlin Preview – Can Hertha Berlin extend recent revival?

Although Friday’s visitors, Hertha Berlin, made a disappointing and miserable start to their new Bundesliga campaign following a run of four games without a win in the early stages of this term which included losing three of their opening four matches, the visitors have since managed to stage a mini recovery which will give them a timely boost ahead of this upcoming trip to the MEWA ARENA.

Early season defeats to local rivals, Union Berlin, along with losses incurred against Borussia M’gladbach and Borussia Dortmund handed Hertha Berlin a poor start and landed them in the lower regions of the German top flight table as they picked up just one point from the opening 12 on offer, thanks to a 1-1 draw at home with last season’s Europa League winners, Eintracht Frankfurt.

However, Hertha Berlin’s fortunes have taken a turn for the better in recent weeks as the visitors have registered a welcome 2-0 win away from home at Augsburg which was followed up with a 2-2 draw at home with Bayer Leverkusen, so the visitors will head into this Friday night encounter in an improved frame of mind.

Results away from home continue to be a major concern for Hertha Berlin manager, Sandro Schwarz, whose side have managed to pick up just two wins from their previous 15 outings on the road, but remember we are looking to back the visitors with the +1 asian handicap and the visitors have lost by 2 goals or more in just six of these last 15 away games.
