AC Milan – Rossoneri losing pace out in front?

There is a distinctly Milanese look to the top of the Serie A standings as Milan, unbeaten across their last ten league matches (W5 D5), remain out in the lead and on course for their first Scudetto since 2011. However, Stefano Pioli’s charges do not boast the healthiest of advantages. Sunday’s frustrating goalless draw away to Torino enabling rivals and defending champions Inter to close to within two points.

Milan have now been held scoreless in successive matches, having also drawn 0-0 at home to Bologna earlier in the month. Goals have dried up, with that now three in the last six league outings having not found the net more than once in nine of their last eleven in Serie A. Fortunately for Piolo, however, the Rossoneri are managing to keep teams at bay, with it now five consecutive games without conceding (W3 D2).

Key Stat: AC Milan have only recorded three wins from their eight previous Serie A home matches (W3 D3 L2), scoring Under 1.5 team goals in all but one of those matches.

Genoa – Gritty Grifone out to frustrate in Milan?

Just as soon as it seemed this relegation-threatened side would click into gear, it has all gone awry. Having gone unbeaten from mid-January right through to April (W1 D7), to then relinquish all that momentum with back-to-back defeats – the first of those at Hellas Verona (1-0) before last Sunday’s 4-1 hammering by visiting Lazio – must feel a right kick in the teeth for coach Alexander Blessin.

Blessin has transformed the Grifone in his short time in charge into a resolute, dogged outfit. Since the start of the year, Genoa hold a record of W1 D8 L4. All but two of those 13 fixtures saw them concede no more than once, banking six clean sheets. Three of which against similar sides to Milan: Atalanta, Inter and Roma. It is wins they need, though, managing precisely that only once away from home all season (D8 L7).

Key Stat: Prior to last Sunday’s 4-1 home defeat to Lazio, Genoa had only conceded three times in nine games, while it was just the second instance of them conceding more than once across their past fourteen Serie A fixtures.

AC Milan Vs Genoa Betting Advice

Although they are now into double digits for unbeaten league games (10 – W5 D5), successive goalless stalemates against Bologna and Torino – both of whom are marooned in mid-table and so should have been there for the taking – has stunted Milan’s Scudetto momentum. Next up are Alexander Blessin’s stubborn Genoa, no doubt still smarting from their recent 4-1 demolition at the hands of Lazio.

AC Milan Vs Genoa – Key Facts:

  • Milan boast two wins against Genoa in 2021-22. Having won 3-0 away in the league in December, the Rossoneri would later record a 3-1 victory in January’s Coppa Italia clash – though the sides were still level at the end of normal time (1-1).
  • There has been Under 2.5 Goals in each of Milan’s last six league games and in 12 of the last 14 for Genoa. Neither side are particularly prolific of late either; Milan netting Under 1.5 Goals for six straight games, Genoa likewise in their last 20!
  • Six of Milan’s nine Serie A home wins this season were ‘to nil’. The Rossoneri have kept five consecutive Serie A clean sheets and have conceded once across their last five as hosts (that in a 1-1 draw vs Udinese).

Genoa’s defensive resilience of late has been the cornerstone of their renewed bid for Serie A safety. 12 of their past 14 matches saw them allow opponents no more than a solitary goal. This suggest a slog awaits in Milan, facing a AC side currently short on goals themselves having gone the last six in the league scoring only four, and never more than once. So while Milan should win, the margin ought to be modest.
