Millwall Preview – Are Millwall set to continue their good run with another home win?

Millwall recorded yet another draw at the weekend when sharing the points away to Middlesbrough. It was the eighth time that Gary Rowett’s men had drawn in the Championship this season – the second most in the division only behind bottom club Derby. Five of them have come on their travels so they will be hoping to return to winning ways now they are back at The Den. They’ve won three of their last five at home and lost just twice all season.

That is the main reason for why they sit three points outside the playoffs, albeit in what is looking a very congested race for the top six which teams as far as Bristol City in 18th will still feel is achievable.

There’s no secrets to how this Millwall team play. They’re hard to beat (as evidenced by that high number of draws) and they don’t concede many goals. Only the top three have conceded fewer than them so far. Conversely they don’t score many and only the bottom four have scored less.

Jed Wallace is the main source of goals. He has five from midfield and having reached double figures in the league in each of the past two seasons is on course for a similar return this time around. He’s looking to end a run of five games without finding the net.

Bournemouth Preview – Can Bournemouth bounce back from disappointing weekend defeat?

Bournemouth have spent the most time of any team at the top of the Championship this season but a surprise 3-2 loss away to crisis club Derby on Sunday means they now sit second and one point behind Scott Parker’s former club Fulham. Perhaps more importantly they still hold an eight point lead over West Brom in third. Whilst they would want to go up as champions automatic promotion is the main aim.

That loss at the weekend was Bournemouth’s second in three matches (the only two matches they have lost in the league) and Parker will be hoping it’s not the start of a slip in their form.

Outside of the defeat at Derby it’s been an excellent run for the Cherries on their travels. Six wins and two draws prior to that loss means they still have the best away record in the league. They also have the best overall defensive record conceding only 13 goals in 18 games, and just four of them have come on the road.

At the other end of the pitch its Dominic Solanke making all the headlines. He has 14 goals in 18 league appearances including nine in his last 10. He’s just two goals away from his best ever return with more than half the campaign to go.

Millwall vs Bournemouth Betting Advice

It’s definitely not the game in which Bournemouth would have wanted immediately after a defeat. The Den is traditionally one of the most difficult venues in the Championship and they are particularly strong this season.

That said, the Cherries have won here on their last two visits, including an impressive 4-1 victory back in April.

Key Facts – Millwall vs Bournemouth Betting Tip

  • No team has drawn more games in the Championship than Millwall so far
  • Bournemouth have suffered two defeats in their last three having been unbeaten in 15
  • Solanke has scored nine goals in his last 10 appearances for the Cherries

I don’t expect there to be many goals in this game. A clash between two of the best defences in the division has me edging towards a low-scoring match and under 2.5 goals. This has been a winner in 12 of Millwall’s last 14 games in all competitions.
