One of the standout fixtures of the EFL Championship weekend is the battle at The Den between Gary Rowett’s Millwall and Chris Wilder’s Middlesbrough. Both teams have play-off aspirations, with the Lions sitting ninth on 53 points, and Boro two points above in eighth. Three points for one of these will be massive, but this is a tough fixture to call at The Den. Check out the latest odds and predictions.

Millwall Preview – Lions to win at home again?

Millwall are back in the play-off picture after an excellent run of results. The Lions picked up five victories in a row before last weekend’s 0-0 draw at Blackburn Rovers, sealing wins over Cardiff City, Queens Park Rangers, Derby County, Sheffield United and Reading.

Millwall have shot up to ninth, just four points behind sixth-place Luton Town. Overall, Gary Rowett’s boys have won 14, drawn 11 and lost ten.

The Den is a notoriously tough place to go for visiting teams, and Millwall have made their home ground a real fortress in recent months. The Lions are unbeaten in five at The Den, winning four and drawing one. Can Rowett’s boys make home advantage count once again this weekend? The hosts are priced at 15/8.

Middlesbrough Preview – Can Boro bounce back from Blades defeat?

Chris Wilder has done an excellent job at Middlesbrough since arriving, turning the club into genuine promotion contenders. However, Boro have gone off the boil lately, suffering three defeats in their last five Championship games.

Middlesbrough crashed to a shock 4-1 loss at Sheffield United last time out, which saw them slip two points behind sixth. After seeing off Manchester United and Tottenham Hotspur, Middlesbrough are through to the last eight of the FA Cup, however.

Middlesbrough will want to get back on track in the Championship with a positive result at The Den. Despite Millwall’s excellent form, Boro are the favourites in this one, with the bookies offering 31/20 for an away win.

Millwall vs Middlesbrough Betting Advice

Middlesbrough have proved tough to beat for Millwall in recent times, as the Lions’ 1-0 victory in March last year remains their only success in this fixture in eight. Having said that, four of the past seven have ended all square.

The teams played out a 1-1 draw at the Riverside Stadium earlier in the season. Matt Crooks scored early to give Boro the lead, but an own goal from Sol Bamba shortly after earned Millwall a point.

Key Facts – Millwall vs Middlesbrough Betting Tip

  • Millwall have collected 16 points from the last 18 on offer
  • Middlesbrough have lost three of their past five in the league
  • The teams drew 1-1 at the Riverside in the reverse game

On paper, there is not an awful lot to split these two promotion-chasing teams right now. Boro have looked excellent under Wilder at times, while the Lions have been sensational over the past month or so. Home advantage could be the key, though, and Millwall to win by one is too good to turn down at 3/1.

Defender Jake Cooper has netted goals in vital 1-0 victories over Sheffield United and Reading in recent weeks. The 27-year-old is priced at 17/2 to find the net in this one.
