Football – England – Championship Betting Tips

After what seems an age of waiting, the new English domestic season gets underway on Friday night in the Championship with not one, but two, opening matches of the new campaign; firstly, I’ll be focusing on Nottingham Forest taking on Millwall at the City Ground as a new season brings fresh optimism for the Trent faithful.

Nottingham Forest narrowly avoided relegation on a very tense last day of the Championship last season, with one of three teams facing the drop ahead of the last match; Forest, Blackburn Rovers and Birmingham City.

But Forest secured their Championship status with an emphatic 3-0 win at home over Ipswich Town, but while manager Mark Warburton has made some interesting signings in the shape of Bouchalakis from Olympiakos, Darikwa from Burnley and Murphy from Newcastle United, these acquisitions cannot replace their star striker Assombalonga who has moved to Middlesbrough.

Visitors Millwall return to the Championship this season following a 1-0 win at Wembley over Bradford City in the League One play-off final, which was rich reward indeed for former Millwall striker, now manager, Neil Harris and his backroom staff who have made impressive strides with the London club.

The Lions suffered just two defeats from their last ten matches of the League One season run-in, and they finished their pre-season on a high with a 3-0 home win over Spanish club, Granada. However, much will depend upon Millwall’s ability to gain points on the road this season if they’re to avoid a potential relegation scrap.

Millwall will be depending upon the strike pair of Morison and Gregory to provide the bulk of the goals, along with Elliott who has joined from AFC Wimbledon.

Both teams scored in 15 of Forest’s 23 home matches last season, and I can see another occurrence of this tonight.
