Chris Hughton’s Nottingham Forest and Vladimir Ivic’s Watford clash at the City Ground in the EFL Championship on Wednesday night. The Hornets are flying high in third place in the second-tier table, only two points off top spot at the time of writing. As for Forest, they hover just above the drop zone in 21st. Who will come out on top at the City Ground in midweek?

Nottingham Forest Preview – Will the Reds avoid a fourth consecutive loss?

Nottingham Forest have had a pretty dire season so far. The Reds missed out on the play-offs by the narrowest of margins last term, and they started this season under Sabri Lamouchi with four straight defeats.

Since taking over from Lamouchi in October, Chris Hughton has certainly steadied the ship at the City Ground, but the Reds head into Wednesday’s tough Championship fixture against Watford having lost each of their last three. Since back-to-back home wins over Coventry City and Wycombe Wanderers, Forest have lost successive games to Barnsley, Bournemouth and Swansea City.

Our betting prediction:
Watford to score 3+ goals
11/2

Nottingham Forest will be desperate to avoid a fourth defeat on the bounce this Wednesday. The Reds, who are just above the relegation zone, are available at 2/1 to get the win in midweek.

Watford Preview – Hornets to seal a fourth victory in six?

Before this round of fixtures, Watford are in third position in the Championship table, winning half of their 14 fixtures. The Hornets have been beaten just once in their last ten league matches.

Since a shock 1-0 loss to Barnsley at Oakwell in late October, Vladimir Ivic’s side are undefeated in five, picking up wins over Stoke City, Coventry and Preston North End, and drawing with Queens Park Rangers and Bristol City.

Last time out, Ivic’s boys were far too good for Alex Neil’s Preston at Vicarage Road, with Quina, Troy Deeney, Nathaniel Chalobah and Joao Pedro netting in the 4-1 romp. A repeat performance and result at the City Ground on Wednesday will do nicely for the Watford faithful.

Nottingham Forest vs Watford Betting Advice

The last Championship match between these two ended in a 3-1 victory for the Hornets back in April 2015, with Odion Ighalo among the scorers. The reverse game ended in a 2-2 draw at Vicarage Road.

They have met since then, though, with Watford winning 1-0 at the City Ground in an FA Cup tie back in January 2016.

Key Facts – Nottingham Forest vs Watford Betting Tip

  • Nottingham Forest have won just one of their last eight league and cup meetings with Watford
  • These two have not met in league action since April 2015
  • The Hornets are just two points away from the Championship summit, while Forest are in 21st

Watford will be hoping for an instant return to the Premier League, and they could move to the top of the Championship in midweek if results go their way. Nottingham Forest are fighting for their lives, but we fancy the away team in this one.

There is good value in the Watford win and both teams to score at 9/2. We also like the look of the away side to be winning at half time and full time at 3/1.

Deeney scored his first Championship goal of the season last time out. Back the veteran to net anytime in this one at 7/4.
