There’s only one point between Preston and Leeds at the top end of the Championship which makes their clash on Tuesday at Deepdale one not to be missed.

Preston North End Preview – Will Preston continue excellent home form and go above their opponents in the table?

They may not get the attention of some of the other clubs going for promotion bit Preston are going about their business quietly and effectively. Now in his third full season at the club, manager Alex Neil has built a squad that he believes has the staying power to challenge the so called bigger sides and reach the Premier League. With 12 games gone in the campaign it’s of course very early to make definitive statements or assessments on teams. What we do know is that this is a Preston team that have been in and around the playoffs in the past two seasons. North End missed out by two points in 2017/18 before tailing off towards the end of the previous campaign. This is a better start than either of those, however.

The foundation of Preston’s good start has been their form at home. They have won five and drawn one so far, given them the best home record in the league. Their away form is the opposite, though, and something which they will need to improve. The defeat to lowly Reading at the weekend was their third loss on the road compared to winning just once. Neil will know if his team are to have genuine ambitions of promotion they will need to get better when playing away from Deepdale.

Leeds United Preview – Can Leeds bounce back from successive away defeats and keep the pressure on leaders?

There’s no doubt that Leeds would hope to be top but Marcelo Bielsa will not be overly concerned that they find themselves tucked into second and only a couple of points behind. Saturday would have been an important result for them having lost their previous game before the international break. Bielsa also knows that as long as leaders West Brom continue to win, they have to follow suit. There’s also a stack of teams behind them, one of which they face tomorrow, and any mistake will be pounced upon by one of them.

Having won their first four away games in the league this season it’s now two successive losses on their travels. Narrow defeats to both Charlton and Millwall will not be overly troublesome but it’s a run they do not want to extend further. There were also mitigating circumstances in the defeat against the Lions following the incorrect sending off of Gaetano Berardi in the early stages and having to play the majority of the game with 10 men. The Swiss defender ended up getting that red card overturned on appeal and will be in line to start this match having played on Saturday.

  • Leeds narrowly saw off Birmingham on Saturday to move into second having lost their previous game in controversial circumstances

Preston North End v Leeds United Betting Advice

It’s the game of the night in the Championship and one that goes to show just how competitive the top of the table is. Just five points separate the top nine and it looks as though it’s going to be a real grind for the top two and the four playoff positions.
Leeds have been excellent defensively all season but they will be tested coming up against the team who have scored the most goals in the Championship so far. Neil’s men have scored at least three in four of their six games thus far making this a fascinating clash of styles.
Preston have been great at home but there is a feeling they have had a kind run of matches. Leeds are undoubtedly the best team they have played so far at Deepdale and it will be a real test. The visitors may have lost their last two on the road but they are so well set-up to play away from home. Their defence is excellent and I’m banking on that to see them take all three points.
