Preston North End welcome Barnsley to Deepdale this Saturday in the EFL Championship. After three defeats in five, North End have slipped down to 18th. As for the Tykes, they have picked up just two wins and have spent practically all season in the bottom three. Both teams will be desperate for the points, but Preston are the odds-on favourites. Preston North End Preview – Will Lowe get off to a perfect start?

Preston North End made an abysmal start to their campaign, losing their opening three to Hull City, Reading and Huddersfield Town. However, two wins and five successive draws followed.

Preston have been in patchy form of late, winning three, losing three and drawing one of their last seven in the league. Last time out, North End fell to a 1-0 defeat to Blackburn Rovers in a Lancashire derby. That proved to be Frankie McAvoy’s last game in charge of the Lilywhites.

Our betting prediction:
Preston to be winning at half time & full time
15/8

Ryan Lowe, who was previously in charge of EFL League One club Plymouth Argyle, is the new man at the helm at Deepdale. Lowe has hit work cut out, but can the 43-year-old get off to a winning start at the weekend?

Barnsley Preview – Can the Tykes end horrendous away run?

Poya Asbaghi has yet to win as Barnsley boss, taking just two points from a possible nine. In his first game, the Tykes were beaten at home by Swansea City. However, they have bounced back with draws with Peterborough United and Huddersfield Town.

Barnsley, who reached the play-offs last term, have had a season to forget up until now. If Derby County had not suffered points deductions, the Tykes would be sitting rock bottom of the division right now. The Yorkshire side have won two, drawn seven and lost 12.

Barnsley have picked up just one victory since August and have yet to win on the road this term. However, can they build on their point at Peterborough in their last away game? The bookies are offering 7/2 for an away win.

Preston North End vs Barnsley Betting Advice

When these two teams clashed at Deepdale back in May of last season, Preston picked up a comfortable 2-0 win against the then in-form Tykes. Jordan Storey opened the scoring seven minutes before the break, with Ched Evans doubling their advantage just after half time.

Barnsley won the reverse meeting at Oakwell, however, with Victor Adebayo netting the decisive goal ten minutes before the end.

Key Facts – Preston North End vs Barnsley Betting Tip

  • Preston have suffered just two home league defeats this term
  • McAvoy was sacked at Preston earlier in the week, with Lowe replacing him
  • Barnsley have not won at Deepdale since September 2016

Preston were tough to beat at home under McAvoy. Since the 4-1 hammering by Hull on the opening weekend, only Cardiff City have won on their patch in the league. In contrast, Barnsley are the only team in the Championship without an away win, drawing four and losing six of ten.

Lowe will want to get off to a winning start, and we like the look of 11/5 for the hosts to win -1. There is also superb value in 9/2 for North End to win both halves of this one.
