Preview: Fulham have lost only four league games all season but one of those came in the reverse fixture as Reading stormed Craven Cottage and left with a 2-1 victory. The Royals are now 90 minutes at their Madejski Stadium from a famous league double.

Reading – Royals still building match sharpness?

Following their recent 2-2 draw with rock-bottom Derby County, Reading remain only a point above the Championship relegation places after a run of one win in six league matches (D3 L2). Meanwhile their last win here in Berkshire dates back nearly three months, a scruffy 1-0 success versus a Barnsley outfit now second from bottom, having collected three of a possible 18 points at Madejski Stadium.

That aforementioned draw with Wayne Rooney’s resurgent Rams left Reading boss Veljko Paunovic bemoaning a lack of fitness among his squad, owing to their previous three matches being postponed. The Royals held a 2-0 lead going into the final five minutes but were put under immense pressure in the closing stages. It was also one of only three of their past ten league games to see more than two goals.

Key Stat: After racking up ten goals in their opening four home league games of this season, Reading have scored just eight times in eight subsequent games at Madejski Stadium, netting no more than once on six occasions.

Fulham – Promotion hopes hit the buffers?

A run of seven consecutive victories from October to November had given the impression Fulham were in cruise control on their way back to the Premier League. Four draws and a shock 1-0 loss at home to Sheffield United later and we’re dealing with a team in disarray, now four points back from leaders Bournemouth. Marco Silva’s men do, however, boast a couple games in hand over the sides above them.

Points on the board are all important, especially as Fulham cannot buy a win at this moment. It hasn’t been for the want of trying, though. The Cottagers actually won the xG battle, often convincingly, in four of their current five-match winless spell. Their issue has been scoring, with the division’s most prolific side – scoring at least eight more than anyone else – netting three across their past five Championship outings.

Key Stat: It has been more than three months, comprising five games (W3 D2), since Fulham sustained an away defeat in the Championship. Although they have played out successive 1-1 draws in each of their previous two away fixtures.

Reading Vs Fulham Betting Advice

We could set for a right old struggle at the Madejski. The home side have won two of their last eleven league games and are without a win on their own patch since the middle of October. They’ve also been beaten ‘to nil’ recently by sides not too dissimilar to that of Fulham (Bournemouth and Blackburn, who are the only teams above Fulham in the table) and so could find this another stiff assignment.

Reading Vs Fulham – Key Facts:

  • 18 places and 23 points is the difference between Reading in 21st and Fulham in 3rd ahead of Tuesday’s contest at Madejski Stadium, where Fulham ran out 4-1 winners on their most recent visit.
  • Reading are without a win at home in the Championship in six attempts (D3 L3) whereas Fulham remain unbeaten on their travels in five (W3 D2).
  • Under 2.5 Goals has returned a winning bet in four of the last six league games involving Reading and all of the past five featuring Fulham.

The visitors are themselves out of form, though, currently winless in five. It could be argued recent displays merited more but there can be no doubt the team boasting some of the division’s best stats is going through a lull period. I think this could be a real scrap. Just two of Reading’s last six league games saw more than two goals while Fulham’s last five seen an average of just 1.4 per game, all going Under 2.5 Goals.
