Real Valladolid Preview – Can Valladolid open account against newcomers?

Real Valladolid sit in the early relegation places of the Spanish top flight after the first three matches of this new domestic top flight season having picked up just one point from the possible nine on offer to date, which was thanks to a useful point on the road with a 1-1 draw away at Sevilla.

However, Valladolid have slipped to early defeats against Villarreal 3-0 at home and last week’s heavy 4-0 loss away at Barcelona, so the hosts will be keen to open their account on Monday night as they seek to set the record straight against one of the league’s new-boys this season, Almeria.

Indeed, results overall have been very disappointing for Real Valladolid as the hosts have now failed to win any of their last 15 matches in La Liga which consists of seven draws and eight defeats, while on home soil, Valladolid have managed to win just once in their previous 13 games in their own backyard, that being a 2-1 win against Getafe last March.

However, Real Valladolid do hold a steady and solid record at home against the upcoming visitors, Almeria, as Monday’s hosts are unbeaten in the previous 11 meetings on home soil and the hosts will be looking to extend this record on Monday evening.

Shon Weissman will again miss this contest due to a muscular problem, while Gonzalo Plata and Sergio Asenjo are also doubtful.

Almeria Preview – Can Almeria break Valladolid’s spell?

La Liga new-boys, Almeria, sit in an early mid-table position of 12th place in the Spanish top flight standings after the opening three games of this new domestic top flight season having won, drawn and lost in equal measure so far, while the visitors will be keen to end Real Valladolid’s dominance over them on Monday night.

An opening day 2-1 defeat at home to Real Madrid at their Power Horse Stadium – Estadio de los Juegos Mediterráneos saw Almeria off to the worst possible start upon their return to La Liga but the visitors have since rallied by picking up four points from their subsequent two matches.

A solid point on the road by virtue of a 1-1 draw away at Elche was followed up with an impressive 2-1 home win over Sevilla last time out and Almeria will be hoping they can build upon these recent improved results when they make their way to Valladolid on Monday night.

Results away from home overall have been pretty reasonable for Almeria who have suffered just the one defeat in their last nine outings on the road but it should be noted that the majority of these away results were achieved in La Liga 2 in their successful promotion campaign.

As for Almeria’s team news, Ivan Martos and Juanjo Nieto will remain out through injury, but Alex Centelles is back after a suspension.
