It was just the one season away for Rotherham following relegation from the Championship back in 2018/19. Paul Warned guided his team back courtesy of automatic promotion from League One but he would have been under no illusion just how difficult it would be for his team to stay in the division, just as it was a couple of years ago. Now 17 games into the season and Rotherham sit in 20th spot – just a point above the bottom three.
They come into this game having lost five of their last six including each of the last three. They’ve also conceded at least two goals in their last five matches.

Dean Holden will be relatively pleased with how his first full season in charge of Bristol City having been assistant manager for four years before a short spell as caretaker in the summer. The Robins sit in sixth spot coming into this weekend and just four points off the leaders. Of course it’s a very congested promotion picture just now but Holden will feel his team can be serious contenders for a top two finish.
It was back to winning ways for City in midweek when winning 1-0 at home to Blackburn. That was just their second win in their last five games and one which they hope will be the start of a positive run.

No team has won more away games than Bristol City in this season’s Championship. Along with leaders Norwich they have the joint best record with five wins and taking 16 points from a possible 24 on the road. That provides real encouragement and could be the difference as the season progresses.
