Rotherham United stumbled to another defeat on Saturday afternoon when they went down 2-1 away to Brentford at Griffin Park and this follows on from the 2-1 loss at home to Burnley just prior to the international break.
Rotherham recently dismissed former manager Steve Evans who had gained promotion with The Millermen from League One but results really haven’t gone their way so far this season and they sit second from bottom in the Championship having lost 7 of their 11 matches to date.
Rotherham’s home form currently reads a disappointing 1-1-3 5/10 with just the one success coming against Cardiff City back in September, but defeats to MK Dons, Fulham and Burnley suggest that tonight’s visitors Reading stand a good chance of getting something here tonight.
Onto Reading then, and The Royals have enjoyed a sudden upturn in form as they’ve registered four straight Championship wins on the bounce with victories against Bristol City, Burnley, Middlesbrough and Charlton Athletic.
Particularly impressive were the wins over Burnley and Middlesbrough who both occupy top five positions in the division, while Reading possess a fairly solid away record of 3-1-1 9/5 on the back of three straight wins on their travels at Brentford, Bristol City and of course Burnley.
Forwards Blackman (8 goals) and Orlando Sa (4 goals) look likely anytime goalscorer candidates for The Royals as they look to reduce the four-point deficit that league leaders Brighton currently hold.
Despite the arrival of former Leeds United manager Neil Redfern who had managed to transform a poor Leeds side during his all-too-brief tenure at Elland Road amidst very difficult circumstances (not least dealing with the Chairman!), Rotherham may take some time to adapt to Redfearn’s ways. With this in mind, I’ll back Reading with the draw no bet option here, and the visitors might run out possible 2-1 winners.
