Italian Serie A
Pick: Over 2.5 Goals
Odds: 4/5
Bookmaker: Bet365

Preview: A win for Lazio, who were comfortable 4-0 winners when these sides met on Matchday 10 in Rome, would move within a point of the Serie A summit. It will be intriguing, therefore, seeing just how much resistance Juventus’ Turin rivals, Torino, put up on Tuesday.

Torino Preview – A new and improved Torino since restart?

Not every team would have appreciated a four-month spell without football brought on by the recent pandemic outbreak. Torino (14th – W9 D4 L15) are undoubtedly one, though, after enduring an horrendous bout of form prior to the league’s suspension, in which seven successive games were lost and nineteen goals conceded. The opportunity to regroup and go again is one they appear to be relishing.

Although falling back into old habits on Saturday, when beaten quite heavily in Cagliari as they shipped four goals in a 4-2 loss, the final score didn’t really do their performance justice in what was a more even contest based purely on the quality of chances both sides created (xG: CAG 1.66 – 1.42 TOR). Torino were 3-0 down by the time they scored the first of their two goals though, and probably felt they had nothing to lose at that stage.

Prior to the weekend’s loss, however, Torino had claimed four of the last six points – a huge improvement on their dire form before the lockdown – after drawing with Parma (1-1) and narrowly overcoming Udinese (1-0) at home. A staggering 2.99 xGF was racked up in the former, so Torino, whose record at home to the top teams this season is admittedly terrible (L3 versus Atalanta, Inter and Juventus), might pose some problems.

Lazio Preview – Win or bust territory for Le Aquile?

A bad week in the Serie A title race, having surrendered a two-goal lead to lose in Bergamo to Atalanta three days earlier, was very nearly compounded on Saturday as Lazio (2nd – W20 D5 L3) found themselves trailing Fiorentina inside Stadio Olimpico. A converted Ciro Immobile penalty along with Luis Alberto’s well-struck late winner ensured no further damage was done, but it has been a very nervy restart for the Scudetto hopefuls.

Simone Inzaghi has now overseen 20 wins from 28 Serie A matches in 2019/20, losing one of his last 23 in charge (W18 D4 L1), with that sole reverse occurring in their first competitive encounter for more than four months and against the scoring prowess of Atalanta no less. A game they led 2-0 inside 11 first-half minutes only to capitulate in the second period. So this has clearly been a team with the bit between its teeth.

Torino scored twice in a 4-2 loss over the weekend, so you sense there might be a few more nervous moments brewing for a Lazio side whose preference for doing things the hard way this season has been apparent throughout. Le Aquile have won only eight times whilst keeping a clean sheet, a trend more profound on their travels having secured seven of eight away victories despite conceding at some stage.

Torino Vs Lazio Betting Advice

Each game is surely a must win now for Lazio, with Juventus four points better off atop Serie A. It hasn’t been the most reassuring of restarts, either: firstly losing 3-2 away to Atalanta when 2-0 up, before coming from behind to beat Fiorentina at home. Further drama potentially awaits in Turin, then, where a Torino outfit currently six points above the relegation places looks vastly improved from the woeful side seen before the lockdown.

Torino Vs Lazio – Key Facts

  • Torino registered four points from three Serie A fixtures following the restart, having taken none from their previous seven games in the competition.
  • Lazio were beaten 3-2 in Atalanta on their return to action – their only defeat in their last 23 top-flight games – but responded by beating Fiorentina at home 2-1.
  • The previous two Serie A meetings produced exactly four goals, with Lazio victorious on both occasions.

Both teams scoring has landed in four of these team’s five matches since the restart, so goals could be on the cards once again. It also helps that Lazio’s desire to keep the pressure on Juventus should force them on to the front foot. The last two Serie A meetings between the two produced four or more goals, while Both Teams To Score (7/10 Bet365) landed in six of their past eight encounters. Both bets appear viable here.
