West Brom Preview – Can West Brom pull themselves together?
It’s a case of ‘as you were’ at the top of the Championship as West Brom head into this Monday night clash against Stoke City still top of the Championship after Leeds United suffered a slightly surprising 1-0 defeat away at QPR on Saturday.
West Brom can count themselves extremely lucky though to still be sitting top of the second tier following a disappointing run of 5 matches without a win, a sequence of results which includes 4 draws.
Baggies manager, Slaven Bilic, will be desperate to see his side return to winning ways here though as the hosts look to avoid a repeat of last season’s blow-out which robbed them of automatic promotion following too many stalemates under former boss, Darren Moore, which ultimately cost him his job at The Hawthorns.
An overall home record of 6-6-1 30/19 looks solid enough though, and The Baggies will be hoping they can return to the sort of form which saw them record convincing wins over Bristol City 4-1 and Swansea City 5-1 at the turn of the year.
Stoke City Preview – Can Stoke get a result at The Hawthorns?
Monday night’s visitors, Stoke City, continue to just about keep their heads above water in the Championship as The Potters sit fourth from bottom and 1 point above Barnsley and the bottom three ahead of this difficult trip to the west midlands tonight.
Although results continue to produce a mixed bag of returns, Stoke have become a more resilient unit under manager, Michael O’Neill, as the visitors have picked up recent wins against Sheffield Wednesday and Huddersfield Town – the latter being a 5-2 win at the John Smith’s Stadium.
However, Stoke have also been dealt recent defeats against Middlesbrough 2-1 and Fulham 1-0 which were both away from home, and with a rather poor looking away record of 3-1-9 16/22 under their belts on the road to date, this doesn’t bode well for the trip to The Hawthorns on Monday night.
Stoke have lost 6 of their last 8 matches on their travels and could come a cropper at West Brom this evening.
