The Blues head to the north east on Saturday to face Sunderland and if Jose Mourinho’s men win, then they will open up a nine point lead at the top of the table. Chelsea head into the weekend six points clear of Southampton, who take on reigning league champions Man City on Sunday, who are a further two points adrift of Chelsea, at St Marys.
A third of the way into the league season with twelve matches played, Chelsea remain unbeaten and they are heavy odds on favourites to win in the league. At online betting site Bet365, the bookmaker has priced up Chelsea at 15-2 to repeat Arsenal’s Invincibles season of 2003/04, when the Gunners won the league without losing a single league match all season. The Blues are a third of the way to matching that feat, and were 125-1 at the start of the season become the new Invincibles.
However, former Chelsea player Gus Poyet does not believe bookmakers should be getting too concerned just yet.
“I don’t think they are going to be too bothered about it,” said the Sunderland manager
“There are plenty of games to go and I don’t believe that is the aim for Chelsea right now.”
Chelsea moved through to the Champions League last sixteen, are in the quarter finals of the League Cup and with them sitting top of the Premier League, then punters will be thinking about them landing a treble this season. The Blues can be taken at 66/1 to win all four trophies, while are 12-1 to land a domestic treble.
