Great Britain Women v Canada Women Olympic football betting is the quarter final line up for the host nation that punters have to look forward to. Hope Powell’s men impressively picked up three wins from three in their group stage to top their group. More impressively was the the fact that it came at the expense of one of the tournament favourites, Brazil. An early goal from Steph Houghton, her third of the tournament, was enough to give Great Britain a win over Brazil in their final group match, played at Wembley in front of a big crowd. Great Britain also missed a penalty kick in the second half, with Kelly Smith missing from the spot. It was perhaps the best spectacle of the the Olympic Football tournaments so far (men’s as women’s) and the good thing about it from a British point of view, was that Team GB looked intent of going forward to grab themselves a second to secure the win.

They naturally had to endure some periods of Brazilian pressure, with the Brazilians brilliant with their passing and movement, but Great Britain stood firm at the back and mostly limited the South Americans to long range efforts. Brazil were clearly rattled by Great Britain as they started putting in some very heavy and cynical tackles on the British women. But it was a huge win for Great Britain who now face Canada in the quarter finals. Britain were the only team to come through the group stage without conceding a single goal and with Canada squeezing through arguably the easiest group as one of the best third placed teams, Great Britain v Canada betting will have the host nation as favourites. Canada manage one win out of their three games, beating South Africa 3-0 after suffering an opening defeat against Japan. They then rounded out the group stage with a draw against Sweden. The Canadians do play a tight, neat and organised game, but the confident mood of the British Women should prevail.

Interestingly, the win for Great Britain over Brazil has given them a tougher run to the gold medal, as they will likely face favourites the United States in the semi finals Brazil, should they beat Japan in their quarter final match, will face either Sweden or France. So Hope Powell’s women are going to have do things the hard way, because if they make it to the final, it could mean a re-match against Brazil. But for now, half of the job is done and if they beat Canada to make the semi’s, then they will at least be in with a great shout of taking a medal of some colour.
