The big announcement of the new year in the world of football, was Steven Gerrard dropping the bombshell that he will be leaving Anfield at the end of the season when his contract is up with the club. So the club will be losing one of their greatest heroes, but for punters, it begs the question of what will Steven Gerrard’s next club be?

What will Stevie G do next?

A lot of former Premier League players have seen the financial allure of playing in north America’s MLS, such as Robbie Keane, Thierry Henry, David Beckham and Frank Lampard. Online betting site Ladbrokes have made the LA Galaxy 1/3 favourites to be Gerrard’s next clubs, the rumours being that the current Liverpool captain has already received big offers.

The New York Red Bulls have been heavily trimmed as an option from 10/1 to 4/1 because of the connection between Gerrard and former Liverpool boss Gerard Houllier, who is the sporting director at the New York Red Bulls. A reasonable 5/1 price is on David Beckham’s new Orlando franchise, and capturing Gerrard to get things off the ground there would be huge from them.

Gerrard could of course think twice about his decision to leave Liverpool at the end of the season, and online betting site Ladbrokes have priced up the option of Gerard making a u-turn and being a Liverpool player at the start of next season at 10/1. You can back Gerrard at 5/1 to become a Liverpool manager at some stage in his life too. There is only a 4/1 shot that Gerrard will remain in the Premier League, but he has already insisted that he wouldn’t go to a rival of Liverpool’s.

Gerrard told Liverpool’s official website: “I’m going to carry on playing and although I can’t confirm at this stage where that will be, I can say it will be somewhere that means I won’t be playing for a competing club and will not therefore be lining up against Liverpool – that is something I could never contemplate.”

Gerrard is 9-2 with Ladbrokes to lift the League Cup with semi-finalists Liverpool this season, while the Merseysiders are quoted at 10-1 by several bookmakers to win the FA Cup. They can also be backed at 14-1 for Europa League glory.
