Can the Proteas continue their recent good form in T20?

South Africa have won three of their last four T20s, a sharp contract to their form in longer versions of cricket lately. They had won four series in a row prior to drawing their latest in India – beating Zimbabwe, Australia, Pakistan and Sri Lanka – so odds of 13/8 with Bet365 for them to defeat England in a best-of-three is a little disrespectful, especially with home advantage.

Quinton de Kock continues to be their main man with the bat. He’s been a thorn in the side of England over the last few weeks and scored 79 as South Africa won their last T20 match against India in Bengaluru by nine wickets.

The Proteas won that match with the loss of only one wicket and had three overs to spare to overhaul Indian’s modest total.

Though Faf du Plessis and Kagiso Rabada won’t play in the T20 series against England, South Africa will still field an experienced line-up including veteran seamer Dale Steyn. Andile Phehlukwayo and Beuran Hendricks will provide good support in the attack.

England looking to cap a successful tour of South Africa

Having already won the Test series in South Africa and drawn the ODI series, can Eoin Morgan’s England finish off in style in the T20s?

T20 World Cup runner’s up in 2016, England are aiming to go one better in Australia in the autumn to add to their success in last year’s World Cup success in the 50-over version. They have won three of their last four T20 matches against South Africa and have won five of their last six T20 series. Australia, Sri Lanka, West Indies, Pakistan and New Zealand have all been defeated since the start of 2018 and they only lost 2-1 in India. Those stats are a little misleading, however, as T20 series often comprise of just one match.

Ben Stokes and Jos Buttler will both return to England’s batting line-up having been rested for the ODIs. The tourists’ current batting line-up has few equals in world cricket and it only takes one of them to play to his full potential to take the game away from the opposition. In addition, the spin of Adil Rashid and Moeen Ali can be mesmerising.

South Africa vs England T20 series Verdict

While South Africa are hardly a one-man band, they rely heavily on Quinton de Kock. He is 11/8 with Bet365 to be his team’s top batsman but will be targeted.

The same firm have Dawid Malan at 5/1 with be top England batsman and the recent Yorkshire recruit ended 2019 in superb form and could be some value having arrived fresh on the scene in South Africa.
