Supreme Novices Hurdle Favourites and Outsiders

There was a favourite who delivered the win last year in Supreme Novices betting. That was APPRECIATE IT who took the win for trainer Willie Mullins from an 8/11F SP position.

He became the third winning favourite in the last decade to take the Supreme Novices, and the trend for the race does indicate leaning towards those near the front of the market.

However, those big upsets do happen and only back in 2017 there was a longer priced outsider and the score from 25/1 Supreme Novices betting odds.

It was LABAIK who took the score in the opening race of the Festival that year for trainer Gordon Elliott.

For Supreme Novices Hurdle betting 2022, our experts will not only be taking a look through some of the stronger contenders at the head of the market.

We will also keep a close eye on the longer priced options in the horse racing betting market as well because those each-way chances do also need to be sized up to get a full scope of the picture.

About the Supreme Novices Hurdle

The Supreme Novices Hurdle is contested at a distance of 2m 1/2f on the old course and it is the race that starts the Cheltenham Festival. As the name suggests, it is only for novices, those horses who hadn’t won in the sphere before the start of the season.

The race is open to runners who are at least 4 years old and there are eight hurdles for the competitors to get over.

The weight is set at 11st 0lb for 4-year-olds while anyone older comes in at 11st 7lb. There is a 7lb allowance for fillies and mares in the Supreme Novices.

This fixture used to be known at the Gloucestershire Hurdle when and from its inaugural edition in 1946 through to 1971, it was held across at least two divisions.

Our experts will be looking through the best Supreme Novices odds and sizing up the key contenders and outsiders for this year’s contest.

Supreme Novices Hurdle contenders – Tuesday, 15th March 2022 1.30 pm

Heading up the ante-post market and therefore one to note for Supreme Novices tips is CONSTITUTION HILL. The Nicky Henderson-trained 5 year old has made an impressive start to life over the hurdles.

He banked a win on his hurdles debut at Sandown and followed up at the venue successfully in early January 2022. Both of those were by wide margins and Constitution Hill is naturally going to pique plenty of interest in Supreme Novices odds.

SIR GERHARD has also been making rapid progress in this sphere. He got off the mark in the sphere immediately for trainer Willie Mullins at Leopardstown on Boxing Day. Sir Gerhard backed that up at the same venue in early February.

Another that has been strong in the Supreme Novices ante-post is DYNAMO DYSART who destroyed a Punchestown field in early January by 19 lengths.

Supreme Novices odds for Dynamo Dysart were immediately cut after that. It’s been a perfect two from two over the hurdles for him and is another of the big contenders for Willie Mullins.

Other early contenders in the market are JONBON and PIED PIPER who both have some reasonable claims if they continue their respective progress in the sphere.

Supreme Novices Hurdle Trends Cheltenham 2022

The Supreme Novices Hurdle trends can’t be ignored when it comes to piecing together betting options. Our experts will be putting together Supreme Novices tips for 2022 out of the trends, history and current market odds.

Among the big Supreme Novices trends is the view of the trainers. Willie Mullins has won six of the last twenty editions of the fixture and five of those have been since 2013 inclusive.

The only other trainers to have won the race more than once in that span are Nicky Henderson and Paul Nicholls with two each.

Jockey Nico de Bonville is the only rider that’s currently active, to have won the Supreme Novices more than once in the last 20 renewals for the Cheltenham Festival contest.

Some other key trends to consider for Supreme Novices betting includes each of the last 20 winners having had their last victory at a distance of at least two miles, with all also having made between 2 and 6 stars that season.

Each of the last 20 Supreme Novices’ winners had won within 16-121 days of the race and had between 2 – 4 place finishes in the previous 180 days. No Chestnut contender has gotten their nose in front in any of the last twenty editions.

There have been 12 Irish winners in the Supreme Novices Hurdle across the last twenty editions, with the other 8 all from home British horses. Last year’s winner Appreciate It is the only seven years old to have claimed the victory in the last 13 renewals.

Supreme Novices Hurdle 2021 Review

Once APPRECIATE IT had gotten himself in front before the last at the 2021 Supreme Novices, the race was done and dusted.

He just kept pulling away further and further in a dominant finish to score by a massive 24l from Ballyadam.

Appreciate It fully delivered the goods as easily the highest-rated horse in the line-up. He also bucked an age trend of a 7-year-old not having won the fixture since 2008.

It would have been interesting to see if Ballyadam could have stuck in there better, but he made a bit of howler a couple from home and was 15 lengths down at the last, despite his best efforts to rally.

Taking third at last year’s Supreme Novices’ was For Pleasure from a big 40/1 each quote.
