Thursday night brings us match day four of the Europa League and my next pick features a top two clash in Group E where leaders, Arsenal, take on Sporting with more betting tips for our readers…
It’s been a triumphant campaign so far for Arsenal in the Europa League as The Gunners have collected the maximum haul of nine points from their first three group matches thanks to wins over Vorskla 4-2 at home, a resounding 3-0 win away at Qarabag and a very useful 1-0 win away at tonight’s opponents, Sporting, in Lisbon last time out.
Arsenal will also have been boosted by an improved performance against Liverpool as they held The Reds to a 1-1 draw at The Emirates, and having lost just once in their last eight Europa League ties at home, the hosts look in good shape for another win here.
Sporting sit in second spot to Arsenal in Group E and find themselves three points behind Thursday night’s opponents despite registering early back-to-back group wins over Qarabag 2-0 at home and a 2-1 win away at Vorskla.
The match day three 1-0 defeat at home to Arsenal has therefore separated these two clubs, but regardless of the result in London on Thursday night, Sporting look favourites to finish runners-up in this group and to progress through to the knockout rounds.
Away form has been patchy for Sporting as the Portuguese outfit have won three, lost four and drawn once in their last eight away matches in the Europa League, and although they possess some dangerous attacking personnel in the shape of Nani (5 goals) and Dost (3 goals), they could struggle to keep Arsenal at bay at The Emirates.
