Preview: Among the more memorable moments of this season remains Brentford‘s 2-0 victory over Arsenal in the opening game of the season at a raucous Brentford Community Stadium. Do Thomas Frank’s Bees have one more sting in them or can the Gunners atone for their August humbling?

Arsenal – Confidence restored after resolute Wolves win?

Every win matters but particularly those against your main rivals, which is precisely what Wolves were ahead of last Thursday’s Molineux meeting. The Gunners actually trailed their opponents in the table going into the game. This only served to underscore the importance of their 1-0 victory, though, climbing back up to sixth as a result. Still four points shy of fourth-place Man Utd but with several games in hand.

Arsenal were without a win in five competitive matches in 2022, a period which seen them exit both cup competitions, prior to facing Wolves. However, that win means they have lost once across their last seven league games – that coming in a spirited display in defeat to Man City – winning five. They are, however, winless in two at the Emirates having previously boasted the division’s best home record (W7 D2 L1).

Key Stat: All of Arsenal’s last five matches produced fewer than three goals while only one of their last seven featured both teams scoring.

Brentford – Winless run to become seven in North London?

According to one popular pundit, Brentford are the most overrated team in the Premier League. At this moment in time, it is difficult to argue with that. The Bees, having looked comfortable for much of their maiden season at this level, are suddenly falling like a stone. Without a win since 2 January, when they fought back to beat Aston Villa 2-1 at home, they have taken only four points from the last 27 available.

With many of the teams below them in the table performing better, a seven point gap back to the relegation places seems precarious. Especially with Brentford suddenly light on goals. Last week’s goalless draw at home to Crystal Palace marked a third blank in five, having scored just three across their current six-game barren run (D1 L5). Not exactly conducive for a first away league win since October (D2 L6 since).

Key Stat: The Bees have played five of the current top-eight away from home this season. Having won the first two of these match-ups versus West Ham and Wolves, they have since been beaten to nil by Liverpool, Man City and Tottenham.

Arsenal Vs Brentford Betting Advice

Few will forget these sides first ever Premier League meeting, which got the 2021-22 season up and running on Friday 13 August. Brentford were good value for their shock 2-0 victory at Brentford Community Stadium as they caught Arsenal, shorn of several key players, cold on a barmy evening in West London. Revenge could well be on the cards then with their rematch shaping up as a mismatch on paper.

Arsenal Vs Brentford – Key Facts:

  • The Gunners are unbeaten in their last 32 Premier League home games against newly promoted sides, winning 27. They’ve already beaten Norwich and Watford 1-0 at the Emirates this season.
  • Brentford won 2-0 when the sides met first time around this season and are looking to become the first promoted side to do the league double over Arsenal since Blackburn Rovers in 1992-93.
  • However, the Bees must better a return of three goals in their last six games (D1 L5) if they are to join Chelsea and Man City in being the only teams to win away at Arsenal in the league this term.

Although Arsenal aren’t excelling in 2022 so far, they could not be catching Brentford at a better moment. The visitors have been without star striker Ivan Toney for several games, leading to the goals drying up and increasing the prospects of a sixth win to nil at the Emirates for Arsenal this term. I expect the hosts, who will be the fresher of the sides having not played in nine days, to win this with room to spare.
