Arsenal have a chance to go level on points with fourth place West Ham as they face a Newcastle team who remain in search of their first win of the Premier League season.

Arsenal Preview – Can Gunners return to winning ways as they look to close on the top four?

Mikel Arteta’s men had been enjoying a very productive time of it before their visit to Anfield last week. Arsenal had won four straight in all competitions and were unbeaten in 10 matches (winning eight of them). There was some confidence heading into the match with Liverpool and that seen some encouraging signs in the initial stages. However Arteta will be concerned with how much his team fell away after going a goal down. Eventually losing 4-0.

It was their first loss since August when going down in similar fashion away to Manchester City. Arteta will no doubt be realistic when comparing his side to those teams challenging for the title but he will be looking for a response here.

Arsenal come into this game looking to extend their unbeaten run in the league at the Emirates to six matches having won four of the previous five. Three of those wins have come against teams currently in six which is where their opponents find themselves as well.

Their record against the Geordies at home is excellent as well. They’ve won their last 10 at home to Newcastle and the last six of those have come without conceding a goal. It’s clearly a fixture they revel in.

Newcastle United Preview – Will this be the day that Newcastle gain their first victory to get them off bottom spot?

New owners and now a new head coach. it’s all change at Newcastle off the field but the story remains the same on it – in the main. They remain struggling at the wrong end of the table and despite scoring three last weekend at home to Brentford the one point gained didn’t stop them from going bottom due to results elsewhere.

Eddie Howe was not in the dugout for that game and it remains to be seen if he will be able to take charge of the team in person for the first time this weekend.

There’s no doubt last week’s performance offered some encouragement in the sense that Newcastle carried much more of a threat in attack. That is positive considering it’s the same group of players Howe is having to work with and he had less than a couple of weeks coaching them. He will hope that additional week with his staff will see further improvement on Saturday.

You feel there will have to be. Newcastle having picked up three points from a possible 18 on their travels this season. Those points have come against Brighton, Watford and Crystal Palace with losses coming away to Aston Villa, Manchester United and Wolves. They have scored in five out their six away games so do have a threat.

Arsenal vs Newcastle United Betting Advice

Looking at this on paper and it looks an excellent opportunity for Arsenal to return to winning ways after their humbling defeat last Saturday. Not only are Newcastle bottom of the table and without a win but their record at this stadium is as bad as you could wish for.

That said, Arteta will be wary of Howe’s influence and will have to ensure his team are focused, especially in defence.

Key Facts – Arsenal vs Newcastle United Betting Tip

  • Arsenal are unbeaten in their last five home league matches, winning four of them
  • Newcastle are hoping it’s lucky 13 having went 12 games without a win to the start the season
  • The Gunners have won their last 10 at home to Newcastle – the last six without conceding a goal

Plenty will be tempted by backing a home win and that’s understandable. However, my preference is both teams to score. Five out of Newcastle’s six away games have seen this and eight out of their last nine have also went the same way. It looks worth backing on the evidence of last week’s game.
