Barty brings title-winning confidence
On the weekend, Australia’s Asheligh Barty secured the WTA Adelaide title. She beat rising star Dayana Yastremska in the final. She did lose the opening set in two of her four games at the tournament. Overall though, that was a big swing of form from the world number one who had lost in the first round of Brisbane the previous week.
Twelve months ago, Barty had her career best performance at the Australian Open having made it to the quarter finals. Given her position in the rankings and that Adelaide title, then there will be huge expectations on her.

Can Ukranian upset Barty once again?
The thing that makes this interesting is Tsurnenko’s win in Australia over Barty in their last meeting, just a couple of years ago. Tsurenko has played just one match this season, a first round failure happening in Shenzhen, so not the ideal preparations. That was against an Elise Mertens.
She has absolutely no track record at the Australian Open, or any of the Slams really. Her best effort at Melbourne Park was in 2013 when she reached the third round. She hasn’t been past, but has made it to the second round in the last two editions of the tournament. She may well struggle to get on the board against the in-form top ranked player in the world.
