Steven Gerrard is the new man in charge of Aston Villa after the sacking of Dean Smith. First up for Gerrard is a home game against Brighton & Hove Albion this Saturday in the Premier League. Can the former England captain get off to a winning start at Villa Park? Graham Potter’s Seagulls, who have been tough to beat this term, will be no pushovers, but the Villans are the slight favourites on home turf. Check out the latest odds and predictions.

Aston Villa Preview – Can the Villans avoid a sixth straight loss?

After five straight Premier League defeats, Dean Smith was relieved of his duties as Aston Villa manager. The club replaced Smith with Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard, who did a terrific job with Rangers during his time at Ibrox.

Villa have been dragged into a relegation scrap after taking zero points from the last 15 on offer. The Midlands club are just two points above the drop zone in 16th. The Villans have not won since picking up a memorable 1-0 victory at Manchester United on 25th September.

This will not be an easy game for Gerrard, but Villa will be looking for maximum points on home soil. The bookies have the home victory priced at 6/4.

Brighton & Hove Albion Preview – Can the Seagulls get back to winning ways?

Graham Potter’s Brighton & Hove Albion made a blistering start to their season, winning six of their opening seven in all competitions. After four wins, five draws and two defeats, Albion sit pretty in seventh place in the Premier League.

Brighton could do with a win, though, having not tasted a league victory since a 2-1 home success over Leicester City on 19th September. Since then, five of their following six in the Premier League have ended in draws.

Brighton are more than capable of winning at Villa Park this weekend. The visitors are available at 9/5 to take all three points, while you can get the draw at the decent odds of 9/4.

Aston Villa vs Brighton & Hove Albion Betting Advice

In this corresponding fixture last season, Brighton picked up a 2-1 away win. Danny Welbeck opened the scoring for the visitors early on, with Ezri Konsa levelling just after half time. Solly March then hit the winner in the 56th minute. Tariq Lamptey was sent off late on, but the Seagulls held on for the win.

A few months later, the pair drew 0-0 at the Amex Stadium. Albion are unbeaten in three against Villa (one win, two draws).

Key Facts – Aston Villa vs Brighton & Hove Albion Betting Tip

  • Aston Villa have lost five on the spin
  • Brighton have suffered just two PL defeats this term
  • Albion won 2-1 at Villa Park last season

Potter’s Brighton have been very tough to beat this term, with just Everton and Manchester City getting the better of them in Premier League action. Albion have drawn five of their last six, and we fancy the club from East Sussex to get a point here. The draw is available at 9/4.

Neal Maupay has scored four Premier League goals this term, netting against Burnley, Watford, Leicester and Crystal Palace. The Frenchman is available at the top odds of 6/1 to score first at Villa Park on Saturday.
