Aston Villa Preview – Can Aston Villa grab important points?
A solid point on the road away at Brighton in a 1-1 draw at the AMEX Stadium will have given Dean Smith’s boys a timely boost ahead of another relegation ‘six-pointer’ against Watford on Tuesday night, but this time Villa will be on their home patch.
It was a positive response in the end from Aston Villa following their 6-1 mauling at the hands of Manchester City last time out in the west midlands, but they did make a slow start against Brighton and were perhaps a little fortunate to be just the one goal down, but an improved performance in the second half saw Villa worthy of picking up a point.
Recent wins against Norwich City and Burnley have seen Aston Villa do just about enough to avoid being dragged down into the bottom three, despite losses to Watford (3-0 away) and to Manchester City.
At Villa Park, the hosts have lost 3 of their last 4 matches with earlier losses to Leicester City and Southampton, so a straight win here may be a lot to ask but with 7 of Aston Villa’s 11 home matches seeing both teams scoring, this may be the best angle here.
Watford Preview – Can Watford extend impressive run?
The Hornets gained a valuable and worthy point in Saturday’s 0-0 draw with Tottenham which extended Watford’s unbeaten run to 6 matches without defeat in the Premier League as the Nigel Pearson revolution continued its momentum.
This sustained period of positive results has helped lift Watford out of the doldrums and seemingly inevitable relegation to transforming the London club into one of the form teams currently in the English top flight.
Wins against Manchester United, Aston Villa, Wolves and Bournemouth is evidence of Watford’s impressive turnaround in form and having seen off villa in their recxent 3-0 win at Vicarage Road, will have no fears in this to Villa Park.
An away record of 2-3-6 9/20 still requires further attention though and Watford should be avoided in the straight win market here, but they look in good shape to at least hit the back of the net in this clash as confidence is sky-high at the moment.
