The Europa League action continues on Thursday night with Swiss outfit Basel taking on Dutch side, Vitesse, at St. Jakob-Park as the betting tips continue in Europe this week.
Basel will be looking to nail down a place in the play-offs following last week’s triumphant 1-0 win away in the Netherlands in the first leg, and having won their last three matches on the trot, the hosts will be confident that they can get the job done here tonight.
League wins in the domestic Swiss Super League over Grasshopper and Sion, both at home, should give the home side the impetus required to get over the line in this second leg. Look out for forwards Ajetin and van Wolfswinkel, the latter formerly of Norwich City.
Vitesse now have to take risks in this second leg in Basel as they attempt to chase down a one-goal deficit in order to progress further in this competition.
This may well be easier said than done for a team that have only just started their domestic season in the Dutch Eredivisie, although Vitesse made an emphatic start to the new campaign last weekend when they inflicted a heavy 5-1 win over Groningen at home.
Vitesse reached this stage of the Europa League thanks to a 5-3 aggregate win over Romanian side, Viitorul, but their record away from home At this level leaves a lot to be desired; they’ve registered just one win from 13 matches on their travels, and are winless from their last 10 on the road.
In addition, the Dutch club have failed to keep a single clean sheet in these last 10 away ties, and so therefore my betting tips suggest a home win for Basel in this one.
