This midweek card is the penultimate game for both teams ahead of the winter shutdown in Germany and third meets fourth in Munich on Wednesday evening. There’s just two points between these clubs and both will be looking for strong finishes to the first half of the campaign. Borussia Dortmund are assured of being winter champions but that makes points even more important to prevent them from stretching their lead. Bayern Munich Preview

It’s not been the start to his Bayern Munich career as manager that Niko Kovac would be wanting having made the switch from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer. A former midfielder at the club, Kovac has struggled to get his ideas across to this group of players just yet, most of them having been together for a number of seasons. Bayern were nine point behind Dortmund heading into this round of fixtures, sitting in third spot. For a club steeped in their history that simply isn’t good enough and there were suggestions in the early part of the season that Kovac’s time in charge would be cut very short. He seems to have weathered that thanks to qualification to the next round of the Champions League and some shoots of hope in the league. Saturday’s 4-0 win away to Hannover was their third straight Bundesliga win, only the second time they have managed to do that all season. There’s no shortage of experience in this squad and they’re all winners, so there will be hope they can turn things around in the new year but they cannot afford to drop anymore points before then with a trip to Kovac’s old employers to come on Saturday.

RB Leipzig Preview

This season was always likely to be something of a transition for RB Leipzig with a change in manager last summer and the plan was always to bring in a more permanent head coach at the end of the season. Ralph Rangnick is currently taking control but will revert to his role as Sporting Director for the next campaign and the impressive Julian Nagelsmann will join the club as head coach. Rangnick is doing a terrific job so far of ensuring that Leipzig will be in a strong position for the new man coming in. The club are fourth in the Bundesliga, in the final Champions League spot. Although they suffered elimination from the Europa League at the group stage last week, it now leaves RB to concentrate on ensuring they’ll be playing in Europe’s premier competition next season. They recovered well from that disappointment by winning 4-1 at home to Mainz on Sunday and it’s been their terrific form at home which has seen them sit towards the top of the table for much of the season. Their away form is slightly is not quite as good and they’ve lost their last two on the road without scoring a goal.

Bayern Munich v RB Leipzig Betting Advice

With less than a week to go until Christmas, this game promises to be an early present for fans of German football. Both clubs have been in excellent scoring form and they’re riding high in the Bundesliga. Bayern need the points to at least prevent the club from falling further behind Dortmund and Leipzig will be looking for a result to ensure they are in the top four heading into the weekend’s match with Werder Bremen – they also know a win will move them a point ahead of their opponents.

Bayern had beaten RB Leipzig in every meeting between the two up until their last clash in March of this year, which Leipzig won 2-1 at home. Travelling away to play the current champions will of course be a completely different story. That said, Bayern’s performances at home have been incredibly inconsistent this season with three wins and three draws from seven matches. Perhaps even more worrying is they have conceded 10 goals in those home games. Leipzig have managed only two wins on their travels this season and have failed to score in three of their last four away games in the league. Bayern’s need for points are more urgent at this point and their superior quality should tell against a team who are poor travellers. All Bayern’s three home wins they have been leading at half time and they should be backed to do so again.
