Real Betis – A must-win game to keep faint UCL hopes alive?

It was only last month that a stirring second-half display away at Cadiz, coming from behind to win 2-1, earned the club from Seville their third win in four league games to close to within a point of fourth spot and Champions League qualification. A four-game winless spell was to follow, however, dealing devastating damage to their hopes of featuring in Europe’s premier club competition for the first time since 2005.

As we approach the penultimate round, the equation is fairly straightforward on the part of Manuel Pellegrini and his players. They must win both remaining games and hope the team in fourth – fierce local rivals Sevilla – lose both theirs. It’s a long shot, but they can uphold their end of the bargain against a Granada side safe from relegation. The comfortable midweek win away at Valencia (3-0) was the ideal confidence booster.

Key Stat: Tuesday night’s 3-0 win at Valencia earned Real Betis their third successive clean sheet away from home. They have only managed one defensive shutout across their last seven La Liga outings (W3 L4) here at Estadio Benito Villarmin.

Granada – La Liga safety confirmed on Matchday 37?

The month of May is the business end of the season for most of Europe’s top leagues. Granada begun it by drawing at home to Celta Vigo, continuing a poor run of form which had seen them record one win in 16 league games. Since then, however, they have turned things around, and in some style. Having put six past a relegation rival (6-2 vs Mallorca), they then edged out European-chasing Athletico Bilbao 1-0.

Those results went a long way to easing their relegation anxiety. In fact, three points this Sunday – albeit in a fixture last won as the visiting side in 2012 (D3 L3 since) – will see them home safe for another season. A return of seven points across four prior away contests (W2 D2 L1) possibly hints at Aitor Karanka’s in-form charges securing that coveted point – though that sole loss would come at nearby Sevilla (4-2).

Key Stat: Granada would only fail to score in one of five previous La Liga away games. In their most recent away outing, they put six past Mallorca – netting two or more for the third away league game in four.

Real Betis Vs Granada Betting Advice

Meetings between the clubs have generally contained a healthy amount of goals. In particular when held here at the Benito Villamarin, where the last three encounters all featured three or more goals and both teams scoring. It is a bet which has every chance of producing another winner. Four of the past six Real Betis home game seen this bet land, as has four of the last five when Granada were on their travels.

Real Betis Vs Granada – Key Facts:

  • Three of the last five head-to-heads between the clubs has ended in a draw when held at Real Betis, who did, however, win last season’s same fixture 2-1.
  • Granada are the form side, though, having won their past two La Liga matches by a combined margin of 7-2. Meanwhile, Real Betis produced their first league win for five games (D2 L2) last time out.
  • One clean sheet in seven La Liga home games for Real Betis offers up hope for Granada who have found their shooting boots of late, having scored 2+ in three of their last four away league games.

The fact both teams have something riding on the result should bring out strong performances from the pair. Having won their earlier meeting this season 2-1, Real Betis will feel they hold the mental edge coming into Sunday’s contest. Betis would also win last season’s corresponding fixture 2-1 in front of their fans, but that marked one of only two wins in five prior meetings as the home side (D3). The draw appeals, then.
